Default working w/ fiberglass

on c-speedracing's old project civic, they used a ek front end as a mold, to make their 1pc front end. the put some stuff on the stock parts so that the fiberglass wouldn't stick to the parts, then layer'd fiberglass on it. my question is, whats the stuff that you use so the fiberglass doesnt stick. one the old site it kinda loooked like vasoline. TIA

I believe it basically is Vasoline. They probably used this stuff called mold release, which helps things, like fiberglass resin, not stick to the mold, or whatever you're using as a mold (the front end, in this case). I can't remember if it's K-Y or Vasoline that's supposed to work about the same. K-Y is water-based, while Vasoline is petroleum-based -- which makes a difference. A good resource to look at would be custom audio sites. They frequently utilize fiberglass in custom work, so there's plenty of useful fiberglass info there.

Good luck -- sounds like an enormous project, though. You can purchase fiberglass front ends (usually for racing) already made, too.
