want to put in magnetic drain plug/OK to drain and re-use oil?
this question is pretty basic and I'm pretty sure I can re-use the oil but I just wanted to make sure... I have about 1,300 more miles until my car is due for its next oil change (I do it every 3K).. I don't want to throw off my service intervals so I don't want to change the oil early then have my whole mileage/interval schedule shift.... the oil is still good as its Mobil 1 Synthetic and its only been in use for about 1,700 miles .. I'm also using a Mobil 1 oil filter...
anyway yesterday I bought a magnetic drain plug.. I'm curious as to if it works and what metal shavings if any it would collect in the remaining 1,300 miles until I'm due for an oil change... so is it OK to drain the oil I have in there now into a CLEAN drain pan, install the magnetic drain plug and new washer, then re-using/pouring back in the used/but still good (only used for 1,700 miles) motor oil into my motor?
I really don't wanna throw off my service interval and I don't think there is any harm in doing this as long as the drain pan I drain it in is clean right?

just change the oil again , dont put that crap bakc in it .
or wait until its time for the next change to put the plug on
or wait until its time for the next change to put the plug on
Ditto. Show some restraint an patience, and wait for 1300 more miles... I would never drain and then use the same chit. Not worth it..

haha actually I just got booked for the weekend...I have to help my friend redo his spring/shock install since he messed up installing his Koni's (has a clunking sound) and helpin anotha friend wire some car audio stuff on sunday.. so no more time to do this lolz = ( .... by next week I'll have put on maybe another 300 miles.. so I'll just wait.. should take me about a month to go the 1300 miles then I'll need an oil change and i'll put it in then..
when changing plugs or gaskets on customers cars here's what we do. take off the oil cap, place a shop vac with a rag over it where the cap would go turn it on, hold the shop vac directly over it then remove the drain plug, the oil SHOULD stay in or minimally leak out nothing major, replace the plug. tada i've done it plenty of times it just requires two poeple to do.
