im gonna get it all back together within the next week.
through out the summer i would like to get wheels and suspension done and some other misc things. this winter im either boosting the h23 or swapping for a lower mile h22 and then working from there. while the motor is out im gonna shave tuck and spray the engine bay. it should come out nice. we will see.

Well wet sanding and buffing began today. A few pics.

Sanded with 1500 grit to knock down most of the orange peel. My buddy andrew doing the sanding. Hes alot more patient with stuff like this.

2000 grit

Starting on the hood.

The first stage of buffing on the fender done. ish. I need to get new pads for the buffer so he can do a better job.

After a car comes out of the booth from a fresh paint job most of the time it has an orange peel to the texture. It doesnt always come out like glass. It also might have little specks of dust and stuff stuck in the clear.
So what we did we sprayed alot of clear so when we wetsanded there was still a nice amount of clear left.
To wet sand you need:
-1500,2000 grit paper.
-A really flexible rubberish sanding block
-Spray bottle filled with water and a little bit of dawn
-Masking tape
-A pretty aggressive buffing compound. My buddy uses some 3M stuff he got from the body shop. Ill update the name when i find out
-Polish/Swirl Remover. NO WAX on fresh paint for 60 days.
-A variable speed rotory buffer(yeah, sorry guys your little porter cable orbital wont cut it)
-Patience
-24 man hours
1. Tape off the edges. i think you can see what i mean from the pics. Edges of body panels hold the least amount of paint/clear so you kinda wanna avoid them at all costs.
2. Spray the panel you are gonna work on with the water/dishsoap solution.
3. Start sanding with 1500 grit paper. USE THE BLOCK!!! Not bare hands. After you have sanded a little take used the rubber sanding block minus the paper to squeegee off the water. This will bring out which areas need to be hit harder than others. I will do my best to capture a picture of this for you guys.
4. After repeating step 3 until the orange peel is gone, step up to 2000 grit to eliminate the bigger scratches 1500 makes.
5. Buff to a shine. Im not going to go into details about buffing. because, well im not the best at it. thats why my friend is doing it.
6. After you use the more rough compound you will have swirls. Use swirl remover on a different less aggressive cutting pad.
7. I really only reccommend doing this on freshly painted cars while the clear is still soft and not 13 years old haha.
8. My next step will be wax, but i cant do that for 60 days because the paint needs to cure.
ANd boy and man hours are similar. It might take some of you less time. Some might take longer. Idk. Just do it and see for yourself.

do you have a air compressor and da?
they sell soft pads that go on the da ranging from 1000-3000 grit. just spray the hood with the bottle as you DA the hood with the soft pad. it will take your 24 hr man job to a simple 4 hours
if that

yeah i have a compressor and a da. but i feel more comfortable just doing it by hand.
and no i didnt spray it but i did all of the body work and prep. my dads friend sprayed it for me. the kid you see sanding was supposed to paint it but our work schedules conflict cus we both work 5-7 days a week and we could never set up a weekend where we both had off.
