FS: '94 Honda Accord EX 5spd -- just 625$! perfect runner. SW MI
SOLD SOLD SOLD Thanks for the interest!
I'm selling my '94 Honda Accord EX. I bought it 4 years ago when it had 160k miles on it and have driven it to/from/around the UP where I go to school since. I've owned several other cars in the mean time but have always kept this one as my daily as it is battle hardened tank and is dead reliable.
I've recently purchased a newer car to begin grad school with and am putting this car up for sale at my mom's house in Kalamazoo, Mi (I'm back at school). Incidentally, to get it from the UP to Kalamazoo I hopped in it, filled it up, and cruised the 600 miles it takes to get to Kzoo from here, then took it on a little trip 2 days later that was 200 miles each way. No problems at all, as always. That was just 2 weeks ago -- it's 100% reliable.
The basics:
-4dr, 5spd Honda Accord EX with power windows, locks, sun roof, etc.
-154k miles on motor, 213k miles on chassis.
-Originally red, I rhinolined the ENTIRE car black, then painted green on top of the rhino lining (picture below). Its pretty awesome actually.
The short of the good:
-Motor with 143k miles swapped in at 203k miles (spring break '07) and has been running flawlessly in the 11k miles since
-32mpg highway, 25mpg city
-Has a recent radiator, fuel filter, plugs/cap/rotor, batter, and front passenger ball joint.
-Engine has no leaks, burns nothing, etc.
-Heat works great
-Has never, ever, ever left me stranded
-Tires are pretty good
-New full exhaust less than 1 year ago, lifetime warranty on muffler
-Interior is clean
-Dominates the UP winters
-All of the stuff to make it run works great, some of the rolling stuff could stand to be replaced but the car does not need any immediate attention at all.
-I cut out the honda rot and welded in new metal before I rhino lined it. It's not perfect, but now serious there is no rust popping through.
The long of the good:
-I swapped the motor at 203k miles with a motor that I had pulled 2 years prior from a buddies '96 accord and had stored in my garage since. At the time of pull it was the best running accord I'd been in and since it was my 15-20th swap it was no sweat, went in great and runs perfectly. No wiring changes at all, I just swapped the OBD2 parts from his motor with the OBD1 from the old motor. The motor does not burn oil, at all! and had a timing belt/water pump/clutch done at 100k in its old chassis. The motor now has 158k miles on it and I fully expect it to run another 30k miles before needing anything else.
The bad:
-It shakes pretty badly on braking because it has a warped break rotor. I actually changed this out but 700 miles it came back which leads me to believe it also has a stuck caliper. There is no brake noise, though, and I have been driving it as is for 12k miles.
-The AC does not work, the compressor on the swapped motor does not match the fittings from the chassis. I have the old motors compressor, which worked awesome, but I didn't put it on. I will include this along with other spare parts that I pulled off of the old motor with the sale of the car.
-It has a slight ticking around left hand turns, may be an axle. Not sure, it could be related to the stuck brake caliper described above. Everything is tight underneath and I have driven the car down logging roads to camp out and it has always held up great.
-I was in a minor accident a year ago so the core radiator support is a little dinged up. I did replace all of the body panels, though, and it looks normal.
-Power locks do not work, nor does the turn signal. I left the windows down once on accident in rain and since then the locks just constantly lock themselves -- you can unlock, but they just re-lock. I think that a new drivers side lock switch would fix this as this was the area most heavily hit, I don't like my cars so I just pulled the fuse. The turn signals just don't tick, at all, although the emergency flashers work. Fuses are okay, I believe its the actual mechanism inside of the steering column.
-I took my aftermarket CD player and radio out of it but forgot the new radio so I will have to mail it in and you'll just have to plug it in. The OEM speakers are in it, but I didn't connect them.
-Windshield has a crack in it
-Throws a CEL for IAT (missing, has a non-OEM intake due to the accident), and did for a time throw one for vtec pressure switch. I have included a spare vtec pressure switch in the trunk.
-Occasionally the low oil light will flash, not sure why as the oil level is always good. It did this on the old motor, too.
Whew! Okay, I just wanted to make sure EVERYTHING was out there. All things considered, it really has been a great car to me and I know that it will be one for you. A mechanically inclined person could get fix the brakes and ticking turns for probably 85$, then maybe another 40$ for the windows and turn signals and it'll be perfect. I'm a student, and a very very very very busy one at that, so I didn't get to it. I did, however, always give the car something if I felt that she needed it to run right. I've worked on Honda's since I was a kid and I know all of the ins and outs of them, I'm sad to see this one go it was a lot of fun.
The price:
The price of the car is 625$, 100% firm. I know the car, its a great daily (it's been mine for 4 years), and well worth the money.
For just 65$ more, I will include a set of Hancock W404 snow tires that I have used in the past with amazing results (I've been stuck maybe 3 times and I drive through hellish storms here in the snow capitol of the world). They are mounted on steelies and have at least 1 more full season left in them. Best snow tires I have ever used, I will be buying another set.
I also have another set of wheels for it that have tires of a little better condition mounted and balanced. You can have these for 50$ more.
If you take it all from me (the car, the snow tires, and the 2nd set of all seasons) I will let it all go for 700$. Then you'd be ready to rock for 2-3 years at least!
