Default Need help to stop a potential theif!

So today at work I was searching craigslist and I came across a USDM type r carbon fiber cluster and vents and all the other stuff for 260. I called the guy and he was reallly shadey. I asked him about the parts and he said he didn't own a car but his friend who owed him money gave him these parts to sell to make up for the amount that he owed him. I then asked him if he knew where his friend got the parts and he said he had no idea. It seems really shady and with the number of tegs and ITRs stolen in the chicagoland area lately I would love to try and put a stop to it. What should I do??

There is nothing you can do, unless he has something with a VIN on it.

For ***** n giggles, find out the mileage and what year is the cluster, pics would help. There were a couple differences over the years I think. Biggest one is the worthless immobilizer key light on the cluster for 2000-2001. Might be able to match something to one of the several stolen Rs lately. Even that wouldn't prove anything though...
Sucks to stand by and watch this shady **** happen and not be able to do anything

Can't tell what year the cluster is from, but the climate control is from a JDM ITR.

Possible they just switched the hazard/rear window defroster switches? Are there any other differences?

The cluster appears to be to be USDM for sure. On top of a "little tikes" playset? </TD></TR></TABLE>

The blue temperature select cable is JDM. USDM has a white, longer cable.

I see no proof of theivery all I see is a bunch of narrow minded people who are way too quick to pass judgement everytime someone is selling a part. Yes it happens but NOT always I have a bunch of itr parts I will soon sell doubt I will offer it to anyone here b/c I would probably be branded a thief

We scoped out people that most likely stole Bartek's ITR, but the police were USELESS. So, don't get your hopes up that we can do anything about because frankly, in this city, we can't do anything but hope they don't take your own car. That's really about it. I wish I could paint a better picture, but in all honesty, I can't.

the story gets even more shady....the guy called me back a couple hours ago wondering if and when i was going to buy the parts...im also not trying to pass judgement, i was interested in these parts and when i buy used ITR parts i always check to see where they came from and there have been a lot of thefts in the chicago area lately so when this one sounded fishy i wanted to see if i could help catch a potential thief cuz the more of those scum bags we can catch the better

x2 with theres nothing you can do,

its just like all the civics with integra or itr parts, or all the integras with type r parts, or all the itrs with non origional parts,

basicaly, almost every civic/integra thats not bone stock with a clean title, never modded that has non origional parts on it has a pretty big chance of those parts being stolen sometime down the road, i bet you can find alot more stolen stuff on craigslist for civic/integra than some itr climate control and cluster

ohhwell, its all
