Default Accord 97 Aftermarket Wheels

I recently bought used Motegi 18" rims, from a guy who had them on his Accord 96. I put 2 new tires on to match 2 good ones already on, Wanli 225/40ZR18. My question is, are these wheels/tires too big for my Accord? The suspension has not been modified, and the wheels fit on good without any rubbing. Any help greatly appreciated.

Your Accord is a '97? What version (LX, EX, etc), engine (4 cyl or V6), and body style (sedan, coupe, etc)?

97 Ex 4 cyl sedan. I've gotten mixed opinions about whether they're safe on my car. Thanks.

Your car came from the factory with 195/60-15 tires. 225/40-18 is really huge (3.6 percent larger outer diameter than stock). Tire Rack recommends 215/40-18, but even that is 2.3 percent larger than stock. If I were buying four tires, I would go with 215/35-18, which is much closer in diameter to stock (1.2 percent smaller). Since you already have two tires, though, it's like they're free, you may as well use them. I would get two 215/40-18 tires to go with the other two.

Thanx. All 4 tires are 225/40, so I can't buy 2 215's. I'm stuck with the 225's. Someone told me that my suspension will be severely damaged if I put the wheels on. I need a safe car for work and school. Am I better off selling the wheels and losing some money?

That's nonsense. If you can put them on your car and they don't rub, they won't damage anything.

That's what I thought too. I am however also a bit concerned with the weight of the wheels. They are significantly heavier than the factory 15" alloys. The 18"s look so good on the car
