Rear rubber fender trim question
So I was washing the car yesterday afternoon and decided to take a look at the rear quarter panels/rear wheel well. The long peices of rubber that go around the fenders looked kinda out of wack. So being the last car I had (2000 civic hatch) had this same problem and ended up being rusted out. I then decided to take them off to make sure there was no rust in the vender wells because I did buy this car from a northern state. So all I that fell out was some dirt from the road. I then cleaned behind the fender wells and sprayed them off.
Now my question is should I leave them off or put them back on?
I have been told that they are the reason that honda's rust out in the rear.
Whats the purpose of them? They only thing I can think off is to protect the tires from being cut up then the car is in a turn and one side of the sus is loaded.
thanks
Pic's because I just bought it and havn't posted any yet

Yep, one of the best pieces of advice I picked up here
Whenever I see a rusted out quarter panel on a Honduh I usually see that damn rubber strip waving in the wind...
Mmm, I do like those black ones
Nice and clean mang
What's heR badge #?

I left mine on after removing and cleaning behind them. I sprayed do it yourself under coating spray in the inner quarter panels and stuck the rubbers back on whle it was still wet, they are now sealed on to the quarters with under coating leaving no room for dirt or condensation, I hope....
The paint and body is in great shape for being 8 years old. I not putting them back on I will just continue to wash under the fenders when I wash the car.
every time a friend gets a honda, i go right up to it and take those off immediatly, the only reason i could see that they would be there is to prevent rock chips from the rear tires, id much rather a rock chip then honda rot!!
i think they are there to protect peopel from cuttin gthemselves on the metal edge of the fender.... and to finish off the quarter panel
I left them on but my car doesnt see rain
Has anyone proven that by removing these things rust does not occur?
