a friend was driving behind me today and said everytime i rev matched/downshifted he saw a small amount of smoke come out of my exhaust. does that mean my valve guides are going? it makes me unhappy when i know that smoke is coming out of my exhaust. any suggestions on what is causing this? thanks in advance.

Coolant = White Smoke
Oil = Blue Smoke
Gas = Black Smoke

Chances are it was just black smoke because it was running a little rich at higher rpms.

 

it was black smoke. not a lot, but a noticeable amount.

Yea its just running a little rich. If your cat or o2 sensor is going out, it can cause that. Or cars with highflow cats like to smoke a little more.

 

how much mileage do you have. my car would do that and a few months later my rings went out. just a precaution

 

I am having the same problem especially when I gun it. Black smoke is coming out.

I'm kinda worried but some say its just gas and i should get msd or tune my car.

has IM, headers, exhaust, no cat but test pipe
