Default The gas meters on these cars suck

On my car, the meter will move from full to one bar down at 110 miles. and then at 160 miles im almost at half a tank, lol. but then the next 40 miles it'll move 2 bars to exactly half a tank. then from 200 to 250 it goes to 1/4 a tank. and 250-350 the other 4 bars to empty.

btw, is there a mod that makes the gas meter go down accurately. i dont like thinking i have less gas in my tank than i do

I have the same problem, but would it work if you connect a non factory gauge?
Or would it still do the same thing?

Does the gas light accurately come on all the time? I'm always afraid to trust that the low fuel light will come on given how inaccurate my gas meter is and I'll run out of gas

Same here...oddly enough though, after running a tank with Techron, the gas gauge seems to operate more normal. Before, I would go 100 or so miles till it drops from Full, but now it drops after about 35 miles. I never put techron in my car to try and fix the gas gauge, but it is something I noticed after running it through. And sure enough, I read the ENTIRE bottle afterwards and it says it can help the sensors sense the correct fuel level...but I'm skeptical about that kind of stuff, so I'm not sure if it actually contributed to it.

I haven't ran the tank low enough to see how the low level goes. Before My light would come on, and then the next day it would show a quarter tank...

I think there was a TSB issued for this situation that called for replacing the the speedo/fuel gauge housing (having a brain fart and can't remember what it's actually called...). But hearing from others, it doesn't sound like it actually fixes the problem.

I am having this same problem with my gas gauge, where it would read half a tank, then the next time i turn the car on, it goes to empty. it took about 10 minutes for the needle to very very gradually get back up the accurate level reading. also, the other day i put about 3 gallons in my car when it read 'empty', and when i proceeded to drive out of the station, it went back down to read 'empty'. i checked, no leaks.

is there a way to fix this other than going to the dealership and getting the fuel gauge replaced? i'm going on a long trip soon, and want to make sure the gas gauge is in correct working order

There have been a few occasions where my gas light comes on, goes off after some travel, and comes back on again a few miles later.

What about occassions where it never comes on and you run out of gas as a result?

Its an inaccurate fuel gauge reading. TSB bulletin 05-002:
Symptom:
At any fuel level, the fuel gauge reading drops by 1/4
tank, or 3 to 4 graduation marks. In some cases, the
fuel gauge indicates “E†and the low fuel warning light
is on. After driving for several minutes, or cycling the
ignition switch off/on, the fuel gauge returns to the
correct reading. This problem is intermittent, and it
affects only Civics with Visteon gauge assemblies.
The corrective action lol: Replace the gauge assembly its only a problem with gauges made by VISTEON.

Yeah mine does the same thing. I had it replaced and it still does it. Crappy fuel sending units.

i use the trip button to see if the fuel gauge is accurate. it helps me measure how long until my gas runs low.

In my fuel and ignition class a couple years ago my teacher said that the gas meter is only accurate at full, half and empty. The rest is more of an estimate. Seems to be true in most cars.
