Ducati Multistrada
Anybody have experience with these bikes or know anyone with one? Specically 04-05 MTS 1000DS. I'm looking for something to do longer distance riding but still have some 'sport' factor.
Any re-occuring problems, issues, flaws I should be aware of? I have no intentions to actually take one off-road, just touring.
Any input would be appreciated! I know this is mostly sport riders here, including myself but any reponse is helpful....
Thanks-

i hear there great bikes but for touring im always leaning towards vfrs,fjr1300s,vstroms, bmws, ducati would be my last pick for touring. if i was doing light touring id get a vfr, if i was doing heavy long tour riding it would be a bmw.
the 1000DS (dual spark) motor is pretty stout. And being 2V, cheap to maintain.
my friend rode one at the ducati demo day and was impressed. he just could not get over the ugly front end.
i;d defintaly pick one up for a touring bike. Find the S with the ohlins, and your gold

Yeah, when I first saw them I couldnt stand the front but the bike is growing on me. I'm also considering the v-strom but theyre actually hard to come by up here in WA, plus Ive always wanted a Duc.
Here's the ones Im thinking about:

They are wonderful bikes.
The 1000 Dual Spark 2 valver has a lot more pep than every other 2 valver. Not only does it have 100 more cc's than the previous 2v motor (what my Monster has) it also has larger valves, more performance oriented cams and of coarse the two spark plug per cylinder thing going. They put out just over 70ft-lb torque and right around 100hp. They are REALLY fun engines. The torque curve is AWESOME. Peak torque is at 9000rpm.
They are not the prettiest bikes in the world, but I will tell you this, you will not regret owning one. Sport touring is what it is classified as, and they define it.

Looksl ike the first one is gone.
The second one, black, S , termi's, decent price. Well depends whats the mileage?
7500 miles means valves and belts. 2 years is pretty quick for a belt change, you could stretch that to 3 maybe 4 years if you wanted.
People are going to tell you a valve adjustment at 6000miles. But the motors never changed when the service intervals did lol. you will be able to hear when the valves need adjusted anyway. It gets loud.
a 2 V valve adjustment should cost $200-$400 depending where you go. Might as well do spark plugs while you are in there.
All in all that is a sweet bike, in black they look, dare isay it, good haha
And you get an expensive exhuast and luggage too

The first ad had just expired, I'm in contact with the owner, still for sale. The second has 8500 miles...6k service had been done. Would the next service be at 10k? Ive been hearing different opinions from different dealerships.
Thanks for the responses...

next service would be a 12000miles. Needs belts at that point, along with a valve adjustment.
Belts are easy enough to do yourself. Valves are not difficult, but if you find a good indepent shop who can do it for 2-$300 in a few hours, it;s up to you.
