Default Hey, where did my rod go?!? F4i Project build...new pics!!!!!!

Well, back in the /26. Got back later yesterday from a 4hr each way trip up past Albany to Saratoga Springs NY to get this f4i. Picked her up for $800 with a clean title...so how the hell could I pass that up?

Here are some of the guys pics from the add.

Thrown rod eyyy?

Thats the only hole??? So where did this come from?

Ohhhh, this is where!

Yea, so I got it for $800, I knew it needed a engine. So I dropped the engine yesterday, got the fairings stripped. I plan to paint the bike pearl white or bmw montego blue with bronze rims at my work this week, while I hunt for a engine.

Just thought I would share.

How is the rest of the bike? That would be a fun project.

The bike is decent overall. It has new tires on it, a M4 slip on, new chain and sprockets. It was down before, but all fairings are fixable, except Im not wasting my time on the nose fairing...ill just replace that.

Im bringing the frame, subframe and rims to the powder coater this week. The frame and sub are getting redone in satin black. The rims are going bronze.

Im having a very hard time deciding between pearl white or a form of blue or a crazy green color for this bike...any input?

A lot of people have been doing the white lately, even i was thinking of it but i would just add to the list Blue would look nice.

Well, im going to find someone to photoshop the bike for me in a few different color variations. I made a spray out card today at work on a white pearl with blue accent...looks good but im unsure about the whole white bike thing. Im not really a fan of white cars at all, but who knows.

Im leaning more towards getting the frame done bronze to match the rims while Im at it as well

Well just in case anyone cared, here are some more progress pics. I have been working my *** off at night after work the last 2 days putting this engine back in and this is where it sits. Tomorrow morning Im heading up to my work to spray the tank, tail and front fender and hopefully (cross fingers) fire it up

I kinda forgot to take pictures along the way. Plus the engine was being a bitch to get in doing it with one person and trying to not scratch the frame.
Yesterday

a little further

Todays end result

You're making solid progress, when do you plan on having it put back together and painted?

Also, have you checked the forks/frame? Something does not look right at all in those two pictures. I'd measure the wheel base at least to make sure nothing is bent.

The forks, frame, swinger are 100% straight. I measured everything and checked everything out before sending to the powder coater. Its the angle of all the pictures that make it look like the front wheel is tucked, if that is what you are referring to.

My plan is to have everything done and ready by the second week in august. Leaving me with a very short riding season here in PA, but oh well.

I just got back from painting the tank, tail, and front fender. I need to get a front upper fairing before I paint the side fairings. My main concern was to get the tank done so I can try to start this bad boy tonight. I will post good pictures with the tank, tail and front fender on tonight if all goes well

The only parts I need yet are
-upper fairing
-upper fairing stay
-rear brake lever
-grips
-new frame sliders

This is going to be my track/street bike. I ordered a set of race fairings as well that I plan to paint for track days so in the event of a wreck these very expensively painted tri-coat parts are not damaged.

Got the tank, fender, tail on today and tried to start the bitch.

Fired up first try!!!!. It idles at around 2-2.5k and sounds like the cam chain tensioner is going. But other than that im totally stoked. Engine sounds like it runs perfect. Few minor tweaks here and there and it will be all good.

I got side tracked working on a fox body today and didnt have time for pictures. I will get some tomorrow for sure after work
