Default Seriously thinking of turboing the R, need major help.

Hey guys, i have been thinking about turboing my car for a few months now. I was debating whether or not to sell the car because i currently have no license. Anyways, I want to have a nice setup on the car, and want to know if i should buy the kit or buy everything seperately. Approximately how much would everything cost on the setup. please respond asap. thanx a lot guys.

...safe to say if you lose a license for whatever reason, you should not turbo the car and instead, sell the car and rely on mass transit...

only reason you'd lose your license is....
1) acts of stupidity
2) expiration and too lazy to get it renewed / other

If you lost it because of reason #1: please, you dont need to add more power to a car. I could only fear more for the general public.

If its reason #2 ... i'd get my license renewed before dumping cash in a car I can not legally drive.

But its your car. This is my suggestion.

If you're bent on turbo, Yellow Blur is selling his kit. I know him and it was barely on his car, before he decided to sell it.

sorry to be rude or whatever, it should be none of your business as to why i had got my license taken away from me, all i asked was a simple question about turboing my car, and you give me an explanation on the reasons behind me losing my license.

I was just trying to be a concerned driver and offer you some advice on your current situation...but...

[rant]
if your license has been taken away and thats your attitude (the defensive :middlefinger: attitude), i'm definately sure i wouldnt want to see you with a turbo kit...so you can go faster much quicker, and perhaps causing an accident killing some innocent driver because a turbo makes you more speed happy. Why? Because You have to be REALLY stupid for a state to take your license away from you, like driving drunk ... causing a huge accident or racking up a ton of reckless driving/speeding tickets. Either way you do it, you're a stunna for losing your license.

and no, you didnt just ask a simple question about turboing your car. thats been answered a billion times anyhow. you also mentioned that your license was taken away....
[/rant]

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!! NEXT!

Blah blah blah - you're a bad boy - go to your room!

Turbo'ing the Type R is an expensive adventure to say the least. I would only do it if:
1) you have about $5K burning a hole in your pocket
2) you have a shop that is competent enough to install such a system
3) you can find other venues (other than the streets) to drive your car fast like dragstrips, autox, HPDE/lapping days

otherwise you are asking for headaches.

wasup arbi...

Man there are some people on this board that are so inconsiderate and rude. Some asks a question about a turbo and they give lectures. A car gets broken into and they make it your fault for parking the car. Sometimes i wonder why the hell I am ven on this board. The guy is asking a simple question its yes you should, or no you should not, not why you got your license suspended, he wasnt asking about that. The people on this board read into things too much, take them for what they are not, and over exagerate things, like just because someone is selling ITR related stuff its stolen. We call need to calm down and not be so damn F**king rude. Stop jumping to conclusions, and listen. I am not saying that everyone on this board is like that..maybe about 2%..but those 2% are constantly at it. To those 98% of people that actually listen and care..thats why im still on this board.

Arbi..you should turbo your car if you want, nothing wrong w/ it, just get it done correctly, and tune it right. If you want one...ed (yellow blur) is selling his, $2800 picked up..ready to go..the guy didnt even use it. And im not trying to sell a turbo for ed, im telling you cuz i know you and its basically never been used.

That's why you need to know what you're doing.

For the sake of other's benefits, what kind of problems did he incur?

While I'm not defending him for bringing up the license issue, he is a helpful member.

FWIW, I've never seen you help anyone, but that's neither here nor there.

trying???? what the hell does that mean?? not to get anyones panties in a bunch but, just to let all you itr owners know you don't need a competent shop to install a turbo kit. my sister could put a turbo kit on (no offense to female h-t's). a type r or a neon or a caravan....yes it costs money...but you still have to build it!! compression doesn't have anything to do with it...my friends itr ran 13.2 w/ a stock motor and a drag 3 kit...since he has built the motor (stock sleeves) and added a sfp manifold, t60-1 turbo, aem standalone, and 550cc injectors he run 12.3 a couple of weeks ago on street tires.....babyied it out of the hole bigtime! and still spun all the way down the track. i was alway like... turbo type R?? why...until i saw his car, if i was you i would def turbo it even w/ a stock motor it rips!

If you want a good reliable set up go with Ed's or a F-MAX kit they are pre tuned for a set PSI and to run on 92 octane and they make more power that drag and revhard and dont need a stand alone and they offer 2 forms of anti detination with there kit and if you live in SOCAL they will install it inhouse for free if you buy if factory direct and they are not that expensive.

Just my .02

Just buy yellow blur's turbo kit and run that setup.

You'll be fine with a stock bottom end, 8 psi, and tuning.

I'm beginning to think a turbo'd ITR with a stock block could live a "relatively long time" if they kept the boost
under 8-10 psi and did some good fuel tuning with either a VAFC or Hondata and the like ... Ed

I'm thinking the same thing myself.....

Honestly, if he didn't want comments on his suspended/revoked (whichever it is) license he simply should not have included it in his post.

Now on to a useful topic. Do a search and ask the guys in the FI forum. Most ITR stunnas believe dropping a snail onto an R motor makes you an idiot cause honda didn't make the motor to be boosted.

**** the ITR stunnas.

Boost the ****** if you want, but do your research first. The FI forum will be much more helpful than this forum but even more helpful will be doing research on your own into turbochargers and their related components/systems as well as methods to tune it.

If you want the install for free and buy a new fmax kit you might as well buy a used kit and pay someone to install it, probablt less $$ that way. Otherwise install it yourself after doing the required research.

Remember, this is a mod that *can* destroy your motor if it's not properly tuned. If there are vacuum leaks, etc from a bad install you'll have headaches as well. Do it right (which IMO means doing it yourself) and tune it right. And after it's tuned, don't just turn up the boost because you need more speed.

Boost does not kill motors, people do. (someone on this board first said that, reid?)
