Default Crank Puley Question

Ok so my factory LS crank pulley doesnt clear my traction bars as stated in a previous thread. I am now thinking that a CTR crank pulley would fix the problem. I have read that I will need to run a belt that is 2inches shorter then the stock LS one due to running a LS alternator and CTR crank pulley.

i have the N1 pulley...it's great if you don't want a/c. i can check my belt size if you need it, it was trial and error for me

Well after some researching I learned that the CTR unit is a bad idea. So I took my stock LS pulley to a local machine shop to have it cut down to a single pulley unit. Hopefully I will have it back tomorrow

Exactly what cut your mind on the CTR unit?

Umm talked to a few engine builders and tuners and found out that they are known to destroy bearings and oil pumps, with me going boost thats definitly not a good idea. They are not harmonic balanced from the factory thus being the reason they chew up bearings and pumps.

60bucks is what it cost me to have the stock one cut down

I think the CTR is a solid cast peice where the LS like most other hondas is actually two pieces with a urethane ring separating the inner from outer peices. Not sure if th CTR is one piece or not though...

i have never heard of this bearing/oil pump destruction myth...i would place more blame on the drivers of those cars. the CTR/N1 is definitely 1 solid piece

Uh... engine harmonics are not a myth.

ok maybe not a myth, but it is news to me. i may be gambling with my oil pump, but it's been about 30,000 miles with no issues. i also have a magnetic drain plug, and every oil change it's looked ok. i'm not saying the harmonics are not a factor, but i want to share my experience. my only other real engine mod currently is the CAI

considering the oil pump supplies oil to your engine, technically you aren't gambling on *just* the oil pump..

true, but if i see the oil light come on i'm going to park the car immediately...not keep driving it like some people do. if the the engine is turned off when oil pressure drops, there should be no damage. same condition as a cold start.

after 2 years and so many miles, i'm not going to change pulleys unless something really happens
