Default Temperature gauge acts crazy at Idle AFTER driving for some time

Just put in a new oem type radiator and new coolant (earlier I had issues with coolant boiling over reservoir cap). Now everything works fine now... even when the outside temp is 114, the AC is cold, Temperature remains just under half mark.

Only problem that, after driving for some time when I stop and Idle the temperature needle starts rising and reach the MAX point very fast.

Yesterday on my drive back from work on freeway for half hour, just stopped and was idling ( for less than a minute ) the temperature reached the MAX point.

Any inputs? thanks

Today, after exiting from freeway, I was waiting for the lights to turn green....As expected, temprature started going up again while in neutral, I gave more throttle so that the rpm was around 4K or so......Voila, the temprature dropped Tried this couple of times, when the rpm is high the temprature comes down?????

Any ideas? Please

Folks, can anyone tell me why the temprature goes up at idle???

Everything is working perfectly during long freeway drives ( when the temprature outside is 110+) but when it start idling, the temp goes up

It is most likely your thermostat that costs around 12 bucks to replace. It is probably stuck shut instead of open and it is located on the back left side of the engine bay, by the head/block meetpoint. You can reach it from the top.

yea its the thermostat its really cheap and easy to fix. but for now if your stoped just keep rev-ing your engine to keep the temp from going up.

Just keep your foot on the gas a lil and you will watch your temp drop. I had the same problem on my integra when i would stop the temp would shoot up, but if i was rev-ing my engine a lil the temp would drop

Well your thermostat could have been tightened to much or it could have bent and the pressure acts funny. I don't really understand why that worked, but it did. If you try that it should work. It just has to do with the pressure and the air and with the rpms going up its sorta like your car is in motion. Because when your diving its fine right, it only heats up when you idle or stop?

The reason why it reduces temperature when reving is because the water pump is spinning faster.

this just happened to me. for me it was the part where the top radiator hose connects to my radiator. that was just corroded and it was spitting coolant all over my engine. I saw u put in a new radiator already, but i would recheck the hose connections, and/or check your radiator

I cannot see the coolant on the edge of the hoses...when ever its boils over its from the coolant reservior top...After a drive when you part you can hear the coolant boiling inside the reservoir

Mine was doing just that and it turned out to be a blown head gasket.

Make sure that the radiator fan is working. If not, check ect switch and ect sensor and radiator cap, and make sure you are not low on coolant.

It might save money to just get it diagnosed by a mechanic.

I went to a local mechanic ( not a big time giuy). He also seems to be guessing like I am

It certainly can be a head gasket. Try to find a different mechanic.

It will probably start heating up more often if the gasket is going bad.

you should bleed the cooling system before you start saying its the headgasket. Could be an air pocket since you have been changing hoses and various parts(thermo, pump,radiator)..

x2 make sure that you run your car with it on the recycle air, so that you get the air out from your heater core(or something like that ).

temprature going up while idling diesn't happen ALL the time....If its the head gasket, shouldn't this happen all the time?

For good or bad, it hasn't happend for the last 2 days.....
