Default Oil Question

Hi,

I have a question about what kind of oil to use. I have a 93 civic with 65,000 miles and the recommended oil is 5W-30, but that was burning to fast so I used 10W-30 and it seems alright now. But I am not sure if that kind of oil would be alright to use in my car. What would you recommend?

I've used 10w-40 before with no problems. More viscous.

wow, only 65,000 and it's burning oil that bad?

anyhow 10w30 should be fine, i wouldn't go any heavier than that or the oil pump will have a hard time picking it up and the temp gauge will rise.

it happened to me once already, being stupid i bought some of that new Quaker State synthetic(it was the High RPM i think), but it was 20W50 and wow did my temperature gauge skyrocket
