Default My 2005 Mustang GT

I never really thought my car was something to show off really... but after I figured my car may be worthy enough of a Showcase/Build thread... I know it can't hold a candle to several cars on here... she's mine, I love her, and she will be in my family for a WHILE. But anyways.... here goes.

The Ride: A Satin Silver 2005 Ford Mustang GT Coupe, 5 speed, with alot of small bolt-ons. The one thing I am proud of most with this car, other than the fact that it's my first REAL performance car... is that everything from cleaning the windows, detailing, oil changes, suspension work, and EVERYTHING else, even the tuning, was done by me. And that is something I take pride in.

Where I spend alot of my free time, after ordering parts... the craft shop:

And a video while I was driving... playing with my buddy Sonny's 06 STi...

http://vids.myspace.com/index....63314

Anything you wanna know... just ask.

My future plans as it is right now: All bolt ons from here on out, are as they will be for a WHILE... I plan on during the time I am serving in Iraq, and save money for the following parts:

~Kenne Bell, Whipple, or ProCharger supercharger
~Heads and head work... new valves, springs, locks and retainers. Ported and polished.
~Comp cams for a GREAT power gain, and a more aggressive Idle.
~Wheels and tires, Shelby American Racing Razors caught my eye when they first came out, and those are the ones I have my heart set on.
~GT500 front clip conversion, without the snake/cobra badges.

I'm a car guy at heart man... I love cars. I love driving cars.

I know what imports are capable of... I have had a few imports that were faster than this car was when it was stock. I have had an Eclipse GS-T, and driven a couple different S2K T's. I know what can be donw with Honda's, and almost any import car.

I just prefer the low rumble of the exhaust, the torque, and the heritage behind the Mustang badge.

I have NOTHING against Honda's... hell there are a few guys within the local Mustang circle that have pretty quick modified Honda's as DD's. They cruise with us all the time. They look wierd as hell... but it's all the same passion.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by JDMxBoogZ &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Thats a clean GT, just needs a drop IMO, and it'll be supser cleam </TD></TR></TABLE>

Since (a few anyways) some of these pictures were taken, it has been dropped. Steeda ultralite springs and Tokico DSpec shocks are what I'm running now. It offers about an 1" in the front and about an 1.25-1.5 inch drop in the rear.

With a little research I found out that anything MORE than that, and the rear differential likes to bottom out over even the smallest of bumps. So I am about at the limit of useful suspension drop right now, so I can't go MUCH lower, if at all.

Here is a recent pic, after the shocks/springs settled in... you can really see how much lower it is than stock here:

Here is a link to a VERY early pic of my car... before ANY mods;

My bad man... I meant to throw up a mod list in the OP... but here it is:

Steeda Ultra-Lite Springs.
Tokico DSpec Shocks in the front, Lakewood 50/50 drag shocks in the rears.
Steeda Lower and Upper rear control arms, non-adjustable.
Spec Stage 2+ Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel.
AEM Brute Force intake, stock MAF.
CMCV Deletes.
GT500 Throttle Body.
Hurst short throw Billet Plus shifter with Hurst T-handle ****.
Bassani Modular X Pipe with the high flow cats installed. Stock mufflers, stock headers.
SCT XCal2 with my own tunes.
30% window tint, also done by me.
Stoptech Stainless brake lines
EBC Greenstuff Pads

I think that covers everything...

I'm only buying one set of wheels... the American Racing Razors, by Shelby.

Do it once, do it right.

Nice. I want one too. Because of the color of the wheel, Silver is one of my top choice.

Here are my questions:

- Please confirm. You can not take the horse emblem off the grill. There is an outline mold. Correct? So in other words, like the Bullitt grill?

- Do you know if the (OEM) Bullitt grill would be a direct fit on the GT? Are there aftermarket grill that look like the OEM Bullitt? Not the cheap looking grills. You can see, I really don't like the horse up front.

- Can you tell me if the fog light can be turned on independently from the headlights? I've seen a few on the street with the fogs light on only. Candian model? DRL? Also, would you know if the fogs on the Pony Package V6 works the same as the GT?

- Most would do shocks and springs. I would think the GT have a stonger shock vs the V6. So if lowered, do you think the OEM GT shocks would hold for a while?

- What is your real world MPG on a V8? How do you feel about it day-to-day?

- Would you know if a child car seat will fit? Both rear facing and front facing.

- The GT emblem on the side is sticked on. Not drilled. Correct?

- How is the insurance rate. You are a young guy. I'm old. Let me ask it this way. How much more is a V8 vs a V6.

Help me become a Mustang owner or not same time next year.

- Please confirm. You can not take the horse emblem off the grill. There is an outline mold. Correct? So in other words, like the Bullitt grill?

To my knowledge, the horse is basically riveted on to the black part of the grille... so removing it would leave holes, and the outline for the horse itself.

- Do you know if the (OEM) Bullitt grill would be a direct fit on the GT? Are there aftermarket grill that look like the OEM Bullitt? Not the cheap looking grills. You can see, I really don't like the horse up front.

To my knowledge, and what I have read on the forums... it is a direct fit... but you will lose everything... the horse, AND the foglights. To my knowledge, the only grilles available for our cars are the chrome billet grilles that look like this:

Like this:

Or... SIMILAR to the Bullit, but not really:

And you can also get the last grille, without the 3 stripe Pony emblem.

- Can you tell me if the fog light can be turned on independently from the headlights? I've seen a few on the street with the fogs light on only. Candian model? DRL? Also, would you know if the fogs on the Pony Package V6 works the same as the GT?

Negative. It's not some special model, or DRL's. The foglights turn on independently of the headlights. Check this out:

Thats the headlight switch in our cars. Turn it clockwise to turn on the parking lamps, and then the head lights. PULL it to turn on the foglights. The parking lights have to be on, for the foglamps to come on.

And the foglights/headlights/parking lights work the same, V6 or GT.

- Most would do shocks and springs. I would think the GT have a stonger shock vs the V6. So if lowered, do you think the OEM GT shocks would hold for a while?

I rode on Steeda Ultralite Springs for a WHILE before I picked up my DSpec Adjustables. They held up fine, and passed a dealer inspection before I sold them. If you don't SLAM the car... they will be fine.

The problem with lowering these cars, is MOSTLY the rear suspension geometry. Since the rear suspension uses a 3-link + panhard bar suspension... if you plan on lowering the car, like I have done, you need an adjustable panhard bar. You can get one from companies like Steeda, BMR, or Lakewood for about 140 bucks... on the average.

When you start going over 1.5" of drop in the rear, the rear differential likes to start grazing it's bumpstop over some of the larger bumps. So anything lower than 1.5", from what I have read, starts to rid yourself of useful suspension operation.

- What is your real world MPG on a V8? How do you feel about it day-to-day?

On the trip out to Colorado, from Tennessee (About 1,280 miles) By my math, I AVERAGED, AVERAGED about 25 MPG. All highway, windows down, cruise set to about 70-75 the whole way.

- Would you know if a child car seat will fit? Both rear facing and front facing.

A VERY good friend of mine named Joe has an '06 GT and a 7 month old baby. He has no problems with a car seat, facing either way. And the passenger seat actually has a weight sensor in it... anything in the seat less than 50 lbs... I THINK, will automatically disable the passenger side airbag.

- The GT emblem on the side is sticked on. Not drilled. Correct?

Correct. Ford had the remarkable idea that there would be a few people that would debadge the car... (which I plan on doing BTW). The 99-04 New Edge Mustangs, and Cobras were drilled. Ours, are not. Nothing is drilled on these things, except for the washer nozzles.

- How is the insurance rate. You are a young guy. I'm old. Let me ask it this way. How much more is a V8 vs a V6.

For 6 months of FULL COVERAGE, 23 year old driver, 2 tickets on record, through USAA with military discount, I pay just a HAIR over 750 bucks for 6 months of coverage... so right about $1,400 a year.

Any questions you have bro... I have learned, and know ALOT about this car. Don't be afraid to ask.

And that's the way it will "look" when I get the one mod that matters.

It's far from stock though, by any means. Good for low 13 second passes at sea level as it sits right now. 12's with drag radials.

I love this shot. I can almost see me driving a Mustang. I don't want to sign up for another forum, as gas just went up again. Each time gas goes up, it takes me further and further from a Mustang.

Anyhow, questions here.

On the V8. Is it a true dual exhaust? Does it have a X pipe? Does it have 2 cats or 4 cats. Does it have two or one resonator?

In order, please confirm:

Header---&gt;Cat---Resonator---Muffler

If it's not a true dual, please let me know where it meets.

TIA

</TD></TR></TABLE>

No resonators, just 2 cat converters, and 2 mufflers. And it is a TRUE DUAL exhaust. connected by a factory H-pipe. Mine however, has the Bassani Xpipe instead of the factory H.

The stock exhaust configuration is like this... per side:

Header... connecting to the stock manifold is the cat converter... to the factory mid-pipe, which connects to the other cylinder bank via a steel H-pipe... mid pipe from the H all the way to over the rear axle, then the mufflers, and then the tips.

Here is a shot of the FACTORY pipe, after the manifolds:

The factory one is on the right. You can see the header flange, cats, and the H-pipe.

And then after the H-pipe, there is nothing but steel piping all the way back, and over the rear axle. Once the pipe clears the Axle, the mufflers start. and then to the tips.

The exhaust design changed DRASTICALLY from thee 04's to the 05's. The 04's cats were farther down the stream, as well as the mufflers being placed in the stream BEFORE the rear diff, as opposed to after on the S197's.

Yeah.... it has the Hurst Billet Competition shifter in it.

It wasn't really that hard of a job... it was just the bolt that connects the shifter's linkage, to the shift input point on the transmission. The trans tunnel kinda got in the way... but all in all I'd say it was about a 45 minute job, start to finish.

these gt's are fast. one time i was slowly creepin up an onramp and one these gt's was somewhat tailgating me and it flew past me when the lane opened up. must have went from 45-80 in a few seconds.

must be nice to have so much torque(ignore my user name )

when are you getting new rims? i think rims would complement your car extremely well.
