oil pan torque specs for d16a6 engine
okay i have done the oil pan gasket on my 89 civic si and i torqued the bolts only to 4 ft lbs and everywhere else it says 9 ft lbs and the friggen gasket is starting to squirt out..first time i did it and toqued it to 8 ft lbs and the gasket was broken and suirted out and now i have redone it...only put rtv on the four corners like it says in manual assembled within 3 minutes..finger tight for an hr, went back tightened another 1/2 turn..came back 24 hrs later and torqued it both times...thats what the instructions for the rtv sealant are.usd tightening sequence...i was very careful both times..just u cant see the gasket squirthign out from below so thats why i screwed it up firs time..i wuldnt of torqued it completely..and second tiem i was careful...so does anyone have any input on this?... i guess 9 ft lbs is wrong..or im doin something wrong.. ill let y'all know how things go with the new gasket...torqued at 4 ft lbs it looks good.and if it leaks ill torque more..
what does your oil pan look like? if the bolts have been overtightened, the pan will bend, and not allow the gasket to seal. what ever you do, dont tighten more than the recommended spec or you'll be buying a new pan.
well i guess i'm screwed also. i just resealed my oil pan yesterday. i rtved the whole bottom. then i finger tightened let it sit then tightened with a ratchet until i had to force it then i stopped. i hope my holds.
