I'm looking to replace the speakers in my 1993 Accord EX. I already have the door panel off and have the speaker for the front in hand. http://www.hondahookup.com/cha...t.php tells me my car has 5"s in the front, and it does. But for the DX/LX model they hold 6.5"s... So how would I go about replacing the stock 5" baffles which hold them on, with 6.5 inchers? just a junkyard run? Also is their any benefit from the resonating chambers which hold the 5" in my car over the power a 6.5 would have? It seems the chambers improve midrange, but thats about it. Also the only 5" speakers I can find are $80 polk audios...

I have XTC foam baffles behind my 6.5" mid drivers and they help with response and keep the bass movement of the cone well controlled but the best benefit is that they weather proof your speaker. Moisture can get in the door and kill the life of the speaker.

The depth of your speaker and the depth of your door limit your custom adapting abilities if you will. If cutting the factory plastic mounting bracket isn't plausible I would probably do what you said and make a junkyard run, get the front brackets out of a 94-97. They mount using a tri bolt pattern and just screw into your door. Your best option would be to make a donut like door to speaker adapter from mdf. This method would reduce resonance and be the sturdiest.
