my new z6/a6 sohc setup
I've been collecting parts for a pretty good while now and I'm getting within ~ month's time of finishing my build. So here we go:
The head:
Stage 2 P&P z6 from performance porting (thanks riceburner700)
Full Supertech valvetrain; springs, titanium retainers, black nitrated valves, bronze valve guides
AEM TruTime cam gear
Comp Cam 59300
New OEM; seats, keepers, seals

The block:
A6 going to the shop soon to get tanked, bored, notched, honed, decked, balanced and assembled.
A6 polished crank
ACL rod and main bearings, and thrust washers
NPR rings
75.5mm wiseco's coated by Swain Tech, around 9.5:1 with the head/block combo and y8 head gasket
Eagle H-Beams with arp bolts (the guy I bought them from told me they were for sohc, got them in and they're for b18a/b and b20. i know they're the same length, but I don't want the hassle of shaving the sides of the connecting points so i'll be getting rid of those and getting the right ones.)
New OEM gaskets, seals, timing compenents.

I also have a y8 intake mani that i have to drill and tap for the iacv and aftermarket fuel rail from IPG. I'll be using OEM z6 resurfaced and balanced flywheel.
Still a few more things to get, but I'll keep it updated. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
Quick question: The rumor is the a6 block is stronger than the z6. If the z6 good til ~400-450, what's the a6 good to?

The 'rumor' is because the z6 has aluminum mains (actually, a FULL girdle), while the a6 has steel main caps. If you can make more HP at a lower redline than the z6, I'm sure it may take more. As we know, you usually have to rev a Honda for power, esp since your stroking/boring options are very limited on a D16.
Asside from that, that looks to be the beginning of a great sohc setup. Just make sure you get the oil pump worked on if you plan on revving it high. The 90* bend at the pump outlet is not good for high-rpm flow.

From what i've read the oem a6/z6 oil pumps are fine, it's the y8 pumps that are jacked... When i get it tuned i plan on having the limiter set for around 9,000, but i'll probably stay around 8-8500.
I also have a y8 tranny just waiting for an lsd. i haven't cracked it open yet...hopefully everything is in good working order inside the case.
thanx a lot, the head is pretty pimp.
i picked up the head from the shop and it looks great!!! fresh internals
. one small detail i overlooked, no cam key. I'll be ordering one asap. I'm 98% sure that AEM's cam key is the exact same as the OEM, so I'll be ordering one from honda shortly.

Just got finished dismantling the a6 block. My first time, it was a good time too. I also used a feeler gauge and measured the orginal rod clearance and the eagle rods clearance and they're the same on the a6 crank so I'm good to go. I'll be taking it to the machine shop sometime this weekend.
