Default Dont know whats up with my a/c..... I am starting to hate honda's

I dont know whats up with my a/c.... I changed the dryer, expansion valve, compressor, and cleaned everything separately with fluids designed to clean a/c stuff.......

So I do the vacuum to 29hg gor 30 minutes, then I wait 20 minutes to see if it leaks, and added the freon etc etc......

After adding 1 can, the low pressure side was around 30 already....... then I added another can because it wasnt even cold... It was hotter than a holy desert......

So I just sold a chevy cavalier with a/c running great to build this little **** and now i am regreting it..... I had a crx before and now I have a hb 91...

Any ideas and help will be appreciated.... and please dont tell me to go to an a/c shop because I already did and they told me that they wont work on my car because the engine is not stock b16A........ whatever...

the cans from autozone will only make your system worse. since you dont want to be told to go to an a/c shop and get it down right, than get some training and buy some real a/c tools.

Yeah, you should really try to find a custom A/C shop. There's a reason that people are trained specifically in A/C, it's not as easy as one may think.

Maybe try not even telling them that your motor isn't stock next time. Unless the person working there knows about Honda swaps, who are they to say your engine isn't stock?

Also, what parts are you using? Stock D-series with an adapter?

Does the compressor kick on at all? Condenser fan operating? Have you checked the fuses and relays?

I have a b16A with a pr3 adapter.... The compressor is bolted to 2 bolts but its strong.... Its the sanden compressor.

**the compressor does kick in
**both condensor and radiator fan are working
**brand new expansion valve
**brand new dryer
** evaporator and condensor cleaned with a/c cleaners
** used pag46 oil and dupond R134a brand for freon....

I used a vacuum pump for 30 minutes to eliminate moisture. I also used a 2 gage 3 hose manifold

Sounds like you may have a cable that's off at the climate control (Hot/cold) It's possible that your A/C works fine, but you have it set to heat. Don't ask how I know this....

at iddle, the compressor shuts off immediately and I think is because the pressure rises too high....

I am thinking it might be my condensor that is not cooling the freon enough because when I drive the car it cools a little bit..... The fans are stong so I dont think that those are the problem...

Also, the condensor was painted flat black back in the day........ So head transfer is not enough... With the car at iddle, I will throw water to the condensor too cool it off and see if the a/c blows cold air....

What are your pressures?@ what outside temp/humidity?

Too much Freon will also blow warm air.

Good point. Definatly something to check. Try disconnecting from the cable from the water valve and make sure its closed all the way.

pressures are high with only 24onces of freon...

60 PSI on low side

340 PSI on high side

and I think that the system is supposed to take around 32 onces of freon

thats probably ur problem. get a helms manual. find the correct pressure ratings and differences for the high and low side. u painted a condenser flat black with spray paint. the ones that come from the factory use a special coating desingned for heat transfer. i would replace it. the recievr/ drier should have a little clear buble on top that will tell u when the ac system is full. get the helms service manual it will save u stress time and money.

Humidity and temp are a crutial factor in determining what your a/c pressures will be operating at.

for example. using R-134a at a relative humidity level of 70% and an ambient temp of 100deg.F will yield a high side pressure of 321psi and a low side pressure of 75psi with a vent temp of approx. 77deg.F (all numbers take from a chart given to me by BMW N/A. however the two A/C systems operate almost exactly the same)

I noticed you live in FL so im guessing the humidity level is rather high.

ok so I decided to do it today and check if its the condensor the source of my problem.

so my normal Idle presures where

60psi LOW SIDE
330psi HIGH SIDE

after throwing a mist of water to the condensor for a while

33psi LOW SIDE
140psi HIGH SIDE

wow, what a difference and the low side was soooooooooooo cold..... It blew a very cold air, I couldn't believe it.... Snow almost came out loll..... Also it needs freon because there is bubbles in the receiver.....

But I have to replace the condensor or get a better fan....

is the condensor fan supposed to throw air to the header?

My condensor fan throws air to the header and my radiator fan throws it from engine bay to outside. Is this normal?

Ya... Think about it, when ur car is moving, air is gonna go from outside to the engine bay. Not only is ur radiator heating up the AC system with the hot air from ur engine, it's also blowing into the wind... Wire it so everything blows from outside to the engine bay. Having your radiator blowing hot air onto the condensder does not help

just from your experience of it being hot when your standing still then cool when you drive is a typical condenser issue.

Did you change your bumper, fan, radiator, fan switches, install an intercooler or in any way affect airflow through it? Are the fins all bent and all cruddy?

The condenser looks brand new, the fins are not bent not even one....... And the radiator only a few buy 90% are fine...

I guess is my radiator fan that since is wired backwards, its throwing hot air since its flowing from engine bay to radiator (gets hotter now) and to the condenser.......

The condenser is a very sensitive item in the a/c system.... After I throw water to it, temperatures on the high pressure side get lower very very fast........
