help w/noise coming from half-shaft/axel
last week i finished putting my new suspension on my rex and when i drove it i noticed a "clunking" noise when the car is moving forward and i can hear it more if i shift to second. It doesnt sound like the "clicking" noise that the axel makes when its going out but its more of a clunking noise and i hear it once every rotation. I replaced my wheel bearing but its still doing it. Could the halfshaft be going bad? is there a bearing that i can replace in it or do i have to get a new one?? and when i jacked the car up it doesnt make the noise when the tires are in the air but when its on the ground it does. Or could it be just an axel? thanks
You could try putting jackstands on the LCA when its up in the air, and lower the car on the LCA. That'd compress the suspension and allow the axle/halfshaft to make the noise. I'd guess, since the halfshaft is a fixed part, it only rotates, the suspension doesnt make any difference to it, but the axles do. Might be the inboard joint. The inboard makes a different noise compared to the outboard joint.

ive never had this problem before when i had my crappy suspension on... i took off the halfshaft and axel and the only thing i notice is that the bracket on the halfshaft has a slight amount of play when i tug it a little and move it around...im not sure if its supossed to have any or not. it doesnt leak from the tranny and the axel seems fine too.. also the noise gets wors when i accelerate but i almost dont hear/notice it when i reverse...im gna try a new halfshaft off my friends b16 tomorrow and see if thats it...i also didnt see it hitting anything it has plenty of clearance all around from what i could see.
