I've done a search, and i'm having trouble finding the answer.

I just purchased a Tanabe Rear Sway/Stabilizer Bar for my 1991 Civic. It is for Civic Crx.

I'm not sure what i'm going to need to bolt it up, my civic did not have a stock rear sway, so i'm wondering if i'm going to need to get parts from a 91 CRX SI/ or a 91 Civic SI, and if so which parts will i need.

Please help.

Which parts, will i need?

 

did they provide any endlinks? and what all did they provide?
what about the instructions, do they say anything?

they may have designed it to use the oem links. if so you would need the stock end links and a set of LCA's with the holes for the stock sway bar.

 

It's a stock replacement bar.....

So it didn't come with endlinks.....Just the bar, and the rubber pieces....and NO brackets....

So you're saying i'll need CRX/Civic SI Endlinks, and......lower control arms?

Yeah.
But take a look at your LCA's, and check for a hole for the sway bar, its possible you could already have them.

Since I havent ever had a stock sway bar I'm just guessing that you will need
a set of these # 17/19/22 (LCA's), #14, #46, #9, #33, #13, #10, #41 #8 (#11 maybe its included with #8?) , #45, #46

It looks like they provided 2 0f the #12 bushings, how generous

 

Most dx/hf chassis do NOT have threaded sway bar mounting holes in the chassis. Check your sway mounting holes to see if they are threaded.

the best way to get an idea is go to the local junk yard, and peep any 91 civic/crx si. look where the bar mounts and all the hardware used. hands on is always the best approach...

its pretty simple, you'll see what I mean... dx/hf didnt have any rear sway bar but you can easily mount the si one. Its the easiest mod for the hf suspension (si rear sway bar). butter homie...

Ok so i'm going to need:

-Lower Control Arms (I can switch to Blox or Skunk2 i'm sure)
-Brackets (14,46,9,33)

Then what are the other parts, endlinks? and other brackets?

 

I got it from optauto.com, along with the front strut tower bar.

The rear sway bar is bolted up.

What i needed: (From SI Civic Hatch)
Rear Lower Control Arms (With holes for the sway bar) (2x)
Stock U bracket to hold the bushings (2x)
L Brackets with bolts to bolt to the Frame (2x) (4 Bolts Total)
Endlinks to bolt the Sway Bar to the Control Arms (2x)





Fortunately i had threads in my frame so i could bolt the L brackets into place. My civic was made in Japan, maybe that has something to do with it. I've seen 6 other DX's that had holes with no nut/thread in the frame.

 

That's pretty much it, for the endlinks I'm nearly positive that if you can't find a sway bar intact on a CRX/Civic at the yards the endlinks off of an integra would work fine.

 

When you go to bolt up the brackets (#14), there may not be any nut inserts there to bolt to. I helpeed a friend with his dx crx and the holes where there but thats it. He drilled a hole in the cargo area to put the nut on.

 

I was just about to order front and rear tanabe swaybars, just have a few questions...
theres no civics or crx's around here but there is a few integras. would the brackets work from that? does anyone have a part list and I could just go order all the extra parts I need? and is tanabe any good? do they just get the job done or are they better than most?

 

The integra brackets won't work as is because the mounting holes are situated differently relative to one another. You can still use it and it should be fine if you do what others have and drill right through the trunk floor and secure them with appropriate bolts/nuts.

I wouldn't change the front sway bar, stick with stock on the front, and a rear sway, go with a front tower bar, and you'll be good.

 

The Rubber Bushing that goes into this hole at the end of the swaybar.



To get the old one out (From the stock bar), use some dish soap, and pry that sucker out, i soaped it up, used a screwdriver, and pliers.

Soap Up the Hole, and the Bushing and it slides pretty effortlessly.

 

Did you ever get the bar mounted? I am looking into the same bar as my ST bar doesn't clear my exhaust.

Because I put it on and it F%#@ed up my hood..... This so you know.

so theres no other bracket? i guess its made to fit right into stock mounts. good to confirm.

can you tell use the size? does it seem any bit light to you for a metal bar? just wondering if its hollow as i might have read.

you could have a muffler shop move the exhaust, that shouldn't cost too much.
thats what I ended up doing for my ST sway bar.

i thought the sway bar mounted to the lca?
