Default OT: Valvoline Oil sale

O'Reilly's is selling Valvoline Durablend (synthetic blend) six quarts for $6, and Synpower (full synthetic) six quarts for $9. You have to buy in increments of six quarts, with a twelve quart maximum. Prices are after mail-in rebates. Not exactly my preferred brand, but with the final price about 75% off retail, it's a steal. Sale ends 7/31/08 so stock up.

i find it funny that an OG lurker would start a thread... about oil. lol. actually, i've seen reports on the durablend oil and apparently, it really kicks ***. it performed near the top of quite a few oils that were tested... testing wear and tear on engine parts.

Does O'Reiilys go by another name in other parts of the country? I know we don't have any in the Richmond area.

I was always under the impression that using lower quality oil isn't bad as long as you change it out sooner

a lot of R owners spoil their cars anyway with the oil change intervals with the expensive stuff they use

I used Silkolene for a long time in mine, granted it was the Pro-S, but Silkolene does good stuff for sure

You can find the nearest O'Reilly's here, and AFAIK they don't go under another name.

I don't believe that, and the oil manufacturers have backed away from claims that you can go longer with synthetic.

There are plenty of discussions and opinions comparing synthetic and conventional oil. The facts are that synthetic is more resistant to breakdown when hot, and has better flow characteristics when cold; the downside is that it's more expensive. Whether it's worth the higher cost is a matter of opinion. (I use only full synthetic in my cars.)

Nice looking out Jim. I'm going to buy a case for the future.
