OK, I did a search and all I got was a bunch of Honda Civic stuff even while selecting "archived content" so this is why I'm asking for all those people who are simply going to reply by saying "search".
I missed third gear today, but everything was just fine before then. All of the gear 1-5 work just fine as normal (with 5th having that grind like its had off and on for a while), but now reverse is like its not even there.
I can't even grind it in. Its like something is blocking it. I tried 1-reverse and basically everything to reverse and its just blocked.
I was going to try to add some trans fluid but, lo-and-behold, I have no clue where to add it. Could someone simply describe the area where this location is? On the Civic its right behind the axle, where is it on our cars?
thank you,
Bryan

the drain bolt is down low by the the passenger axle and the fill hole is above it about six inches or so....the drain bolt takes a ratchet end to loosen and tighten and the fill bolt is a 17 or 19 mm I believe.....
* When filling it up , leave it on the ground so that the car is level and use a funnel with a hose in it ....fill it until it starts running out of the fill hole.....your done....and I would use OEM honda mtf

Alright... and I hear that reverse has no synchronizer so how could the sync go out and not let it into gear?
I hear that weak clutches can cause this problem and mine has a week clutch, but all of the other forward gears work just fine. Last time I had this problem was about a year ago and it wound up curing itself after a few hours of playing around with it. This time there's no such luck.
Also, perhaps its a linkage issue? With the car off first, fifth and obviously reverse are tricky to engage and sometimes just don't at all.

i had the same thing happen to me. i missed 3rd and i lost reverse. i had Honda look at it and they told me there is a safety pin that keeps you from going into reverse while moving forward and it was jammed. i had a transmission shop replace all the synchros and clutch, it fixed the problem. i have no clue when it comes to transmission stuff but thats my 2 cents.
i put a clutch in the first time and they said they fixed the pin for $400ish and i did it again driving moderately. They did the synchros and clutch the second time for roughly $800. Honda wanted like $2500 so i went to a small yet reliable transmission shop.
The dreaded "missed a gear, now reverse won't work" syndrome.
I got mines back by starting the car and pushing the clutch in, pull back on the shifter into reverse as hard as possible. Really jam it in there and hold it. Then slowly release the clutch off the floor, if you're lucky you'll feel it start to grind. Clutch back in and see if you can shift into reverse properly.

Yeah I've tried that. Last time that got it to come back, but it seems like its pretty damn wedged up. Maybe its my weak clutch or the linkage that is magnifying the symptoms.

Got that thing to work using that method with a little more force lol. I'm about to change the oil and trans fluid now. . . . Thanks for the help guys
My SH did the same thing. Fifth grinded and reverse wouldnt go in. i took it to a local transmission shop and they basically replaced my whole transmission for $1300. A week later the clutch went out. SO i would watch who you let fix your car and make sure They arent ripping you off...
