I would start by taking a spark plug off and holding it near the chassis then starting the car, if you see it arc your getting spark. Any spark should be enough to ignite the mix. Get you ECU checked for codes, becuase you can throw a code that dosent trip the CEL it just gets logged.

Does the crank and attempt to start or do you hear a whirring noise when you go to crank it?

if it was a fuel problem it would start when you threw starting fluid in, therefore i would be checking for spark to, if your getting both , i would pull the plugs out and see if they are rich with gas on them, you could just have a flodded engine, take the plugs out and crank car over acouple of time without plugs in, then let it sit for about an hour, put plugs back in and see if your getting fire.

test vacuum lines and test the map sensor. also make sure all wires are firing, if the engine is shaking really bad it could be misfiring in one or more cylinders. hope some of this info helps.
