Default lowering car, suspension, struts?

how much can i lower my car with springs without having to replace the struts? do you have to replace the struts when you replace the springs or is that true when the drop is over 2 inches? ive read that you can get blown struts from just getting springs. struts and springs are very different in their price range, so i was curious to what everyone else does.

you can ride aftermarket springs on stock shocks for a while but eventually they will blow and your ride will suffer. Better to do it all at once.

I just bought a 01 EM2 and the guy had it on stock shocks with H&R sports. Needless to say I had to put back on the stock springs [was scrapping, slamming on ground everywhere] and now I gotta get a whole new suspension. The drop screwed up the LCA bushings, possibly driveaxle, shocks, under carriage, oh yeah, and the tires paid a hefty price...etc.

Thinkin' of getting Tein SS-Ps ....
