Anyone ever done long/X-country trips in an ITR?

I'm wondering what kind of mileage an ITR gets during steady freeway driving, especially on long road trips that require more than two tanks of gas. I figure that 350 miles is a good number for an ITR's bingo state.
Also, I'm used to cruise control so I've never driven a long drive without it. Have you guys (especially anyone that's suffered gout) experienced dead/aching legs from driving long drives without cruise control?

My 97R usually averages 25 MPG on cross country interstate trips...fill up every 250 miles which is about when the low fuel light comes on. I am sure that I could get better mileage, but my A/C is typically blowing full blast (my dog rides with me every where) and I like to dRive.
Never really have leg problems from lack of cruise control, but my back doesn't really like long R drives.

Drove it to Austria from Bitburg, Germany last summer. I averaged 23mpg (would have been less if not for the staus and road construction). I like to keep it at 120-130 mph when trafic permits (19mpg at those speeds). I took the whole family two kids, and wife. I had to hear the wife bitch the whole time about why I didn't take her 07 530i. Leg cramps, back pain, and headache were comon. I wouldn't do it again.
I do a 990km trip twice a year (I'm a uni student) and find that after 3 or so hours of driving my right thigh (RHD here in NZ remember) gets sore and starts to go numb. Also find that the only way I can rest my right arm is either awkwardly on the sill or even more awkwardly down on the side of the seat.

That's funny... I got about the exact same on the way home this year from Expo 8. It was about a 180 mile stretch (I think) and averaged 33.7 mpg. I think I was doing about 75mph during that leg. I to was loaded down, but my AC went out while entering Virginia, so that was off as well. The other legs, I was getting about 27 mpg.
Oh, and yeah, You have GOT to stretch and give your ears a rest as well while filling up.

Even with close to 400lbs in the back of mine I tend to get over 30mpg at 85mph or so. Not long ago I even got 38mpg fully laden. Mileage is all about throttle position

Same here, on my bone stock ITR.
Note that you can't count on 350 miles, since that will leave you just about running on fumes if you're only getting 27. The low fuel light starts coming on after you've used somewhere around 10.5 gallons, which means you have another 2.7 gallons left in the tank.

Yes. A bone stock ITR turns 4000 RPM at 75 mph in fifth gear.

I just did roughly 6k+/- miles in my ITR last week, driving to expo and back. I averaged somewhere around 470-500km to every 10 gallons of gas. That roughly translates into 29-32mpg. This was with a 4dr ITR with an additional set of tires, a bunch of tools, pop-up awning, clothes, an additional person for half of the trip, etc... I also have a 4.78 tranny in the car, was about 50/50 with the windows down or A/C, cruising speed was somewhere around 80-85, and had a bunch of mountains to climb and cross-winds to battle.
The car was a very comfortable ride for me, the only thing that bothered me was having to keep my knee in one position the whole time.

100% stock ITR. 900+ miles. I averaged ~29MPG. But that was when I first got the ITR and got a bit throttle happy. I'm sure I could've got above 30MPG if I had like a mature adult.
Not having cruise wasn't too bad. You just have to check your speed more constantly. But I didn't feel any leg aches or pains.

The trips are definitely do-able. I traveled from CT back to FL. This is where the JDM Recaro's really shine. It was like being in a lazy boy the whole way back.
As for the cruise control... you just get used to not having it.

I recently got 30mpg on the way to Charlotte from Raleigh with the a/c on going about 80-85 the whole way down.
Thinking about picking up a '97 and driving back to California?

with just IHE untuned and 4.7FD
I usually get around 25 if I am cruising 80mph@around 4700rpm
I never in my life hit 30+mpg unless I drop my rpm to 4000 which is around 65mph
I did it once last time driving 1k+ miles and I average around 34mpg but I spent an extra 4 hour just doing that (Would've cruise in 85mph
)

I can easily get over 300 miles on a tank, the maximum I have done is 365miles. I got 30mpg the weekend of the PA meet, and that is including the hour+ of spirited driving.

I average two 600 mi (each way) trips a year with wife, kid, cat and trunk packed solid... Constant droning noise took a while to get used to, but the wife has never complained about it. Right leg and back get a bit tired - but this is helped dramatically by stopping / stretching every 2-3 hrs. I average 30-32 at 75 mph with A/C and loaded car.
Honestly, I can't think of another car I would prefer to be driving on these trips - it's quite cool that my 'race car' can also serve as a 'road-trip' car !!!

my itr got a range of 28-37.5 mpg on long trips (500-1000 miles each way), the average was probably around 32. throw extra weight in there and it went down, obviously.
running over 80mph would reduce mileage quite a bit - my 37.5 mpg experience was from nashville to roughly west lafayette at around 70mph.
never had a leg issue unless i left my wallet in my back pocket
just get comfy and sit back a lil bit.

Farthest I went was 800 miles from VA to FL, averaged around 30-32 mpg...That was in my black teg with the autopower roll bar, a bit uncomfprtabel because I couldnt really relax the seat.

Time to kick the tart out before you go completely metric.

^I did a very similar trip to you but I left it in 5th the whole time, geoff knows.. haha, anyways I was getting like 32mpg for most of it except when it got windy.
omg.. after the ITR stayed in storage for quite a long while, and I used cruise everyday in the 4-Runner, I forgot how to use an accelerator pedal.
I tried to learn myself again, for the ride to the EXPO. I learned I will never drive further than from Charlotte to Danville.. evar again.
I'm 6'3", so my leg and ankle was killing me... not to mention my butt from the Kirkey seat and 14k springs.
