There are a few links to tracks, and you can also follow links to local SCCA regional websites. Sorry I can't do better, but I can't remember what is near you.

I don't know where it is exactly, but Mid Ohio is in...Ohio. And there's an Ohio/Indiana NASA region that puts on schools there. Check out http://www.nasaproracing.com, there's probably more info on the region there.
Nelson Ledges has "fun Dayz" on Fridays, entry is like $100. There are no instructors and minimal supervision.
Look into BMWCCA or PCA. They both have HPDE schools at Mid O and Nelson, plus you have Beaver Run less than an hour from Y-town.
Northern Ohio rocks for close proximity to road courses!!!!

There is a race on August 9th at Beaverun in PA near Pittsburgh, there are also several other HPDE/race events in the ohio/pa/indiana region that are listed on http://www.nasaproracing.com

i just posted this in another thread but in case you missed it...
and if any of you local there is interested I will be there with TracQuest Aug 13/14th Tues/Wed just after CART visits there. TQ is one of the best clubs I've ran with. I highly recommend it. From what I've heard Mid-Ohio school dates are fairly limited so this would be a good chance to hit up one of the best tracks in the country.

drop me a note if you are interested to attend. anyone is welcome to just come hang out too.

I would stay away from that kind of event unless you have ALOT of track time under your belt , sounds like a recipe for disaster
AND why wouldn't you want an instructor or supervision , how else would you learn and stay safe
