generally there copies of name brand cast manifolds. They work just fine. I ran a 99 dollar ebay cast manifold for 16k miles at 350whp without any issues at all.

I'm rocking one on my setup - although my wastegate placement is more centered than the one pictured. No issues at all with it and it was only $100. I did clean up the crap that was left over from casting on the inside. Times are in my sig.
Acutally a friend of mine is using one right now, before that he had an ebay ram horn manifold and they both work fine. ive never had a problem with mine either

Same here. I'm running that same exact one with no issues except that my tial wastegate was hitting my hood on my ej so I just took the fitting on the top off.
I bought a Meutek cast manifold from ebay. Got it cheap, looks "exactly" like my friends Revhard cast manifold. Then we checked the seller's name RevHardUSA. Coincidence, maybe, but I'm thinking maybe not.

That has to be the stupidest thing I've read in a while on here. Spend $2000-2500 on a turbo setup to increase fuel economy by maybe 3% when in actuality it is more likely going to stay the same or drop 1-2%. Brilliant!
Replace your oxygen sensor or find a local idiot to tune your car for fuel economy on the cheap. Either will result in a better investment.

Not just for that u moron....obviously i want more power out of the car. how would you suggest i go about that? and where do you get $2500 for a D series turbo setup? I'm going to build everything I cant buy.....I bet it will cost me less than $600 and a weekend of work on the car.
So along with more power plus slightly better fuel economy, where is the downside to doing so?

How are you getting better fuel economy? I hope you dont think a turbos going to do that. Wastegate placement is pretty poor on this mani your probably going to have a little trouble controlling boost. What kind of wastegate do you plan on using?

Turbo - $150 used
WG - $100 Ebay Special, $150 Tial Used, or $200 Tial New
BOV - $50-200
Fuel Pump - $80-100
Injectors - $50-200
Intercooler - $100-200
Charge piping - $150
Manifold - $100-400
Downpipe - $60 (Just raw materials. No flexpipe.
EMS/Tuning - Free - $500
That doesn't include all the other stuff you need but isn't part of the turbo setup like a clutch and exhaust system.
My lowball estimate is roughly - $780 w/o tuning. Add tuning, EMS, clutch, and exhaust system which are typically done at the same time and you are damn close to $2000. I've priced out a large number of budget setups. I know how much it costs in the end. Unless you get free parts or incredible deals, the average schmoe, when all said and done spends around $2000.
As for why not to do it. A couple of reasons, if you increase fuel economy by 10%, you are still dumping more money on 93 octane vs 87 octane. So any savings would be almost a loss. Then on top of that, you have $2000 in costs that would probably take 3-5 years to recover and by then the car will probably be sold or blown to pieces so you will never have a chance to break even.
Don't say you want a car for fuel economy and spend $$ on a turbo setup. Say you want more power and hope to increase your fuel economy slightly. It's more reasonable and doesn't make you sound absolutely retarded. Right now your argument is a failure.

I pieced together my own setup. Went from a cast iron ebay manifold, didn't like it. Went to a UGR cast iron manifold, didn't like it either. Finally got an afi ram horn manifold, best money i've spent. Total, I've probably spent 2,600. Which is the price of an AFI kit, with less headaches.

boosting a sohc can cost under $500 easily, you overshot your prices on just about everything. honestly, you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about, so just stop posting.

Okay, so Turbo = more air, more air means you need more fuel, more fuel means less gas mileage. I dont think adding a turbo will ever increase fuel mileage, unless you're running in limp mode currently, and you plan on using the tune to increase your mileage, which is still a long shot.

I've been a member on HMT far longer than you have. I also know how it prices out in the end. Point out where I over priced anything dramatically. If you want to run PVC charge pipes and no intercooler, sure you can do a kit for next to nothing. But in the same breath it is a POS and you are going to change those parts in a few weeks because the feeling of "OMG I'm boosted" will wear out and the new feeling of "Jesus Christ, I have to drive around in this **** box and look what I did" will come.

actually u can save gas with a supercharger/turbo. ive heard of it power 2 weight ratio and all comes in handy..plus ur maximizing ur power in an engine. a tech at ford had his mustang supercharged and tuned well. and he says he get a little bit more gas mileage...idk how he proved it but i think hes lil tach info says how much he gets...
plus thers other therioes im jsut not at the moment looken 4 the info jsut putten my 2 cents in...

in the right hands you can get better fuel economy with a turbo.
but honestly that is realy hard not to give it a little bit or race the idiot in the 5.0 that thinks your a ricer ect.
there is no way you will get better gas milage if someone is going to put a turbo kit on a car their not going to stay off the pedal enough. boost is to much fun
coming from a 17 yr old anyways
