ITR and it's A/C sys. Trouble shooting compressor...
Ok so im putting a/c in my car (#00-1011
) and for some reason the a/c compressor doesn't want to turn or "click" on. The clutch part wont spin for nothing. So my question is, what could be causing this? Just a bad compressor? Needs compressor oil? I checked the fuses, all good. Is there a bad relay somewhere i can check?
Someone school me, a search turns up nothing

Yes there's a relay. And a fuse. Do you have a charge of refrigerant in the system?
Unplug wire from comp. clutch and check for voltage with a meter.

The fuse is good, maybe i need a new relay. There's no refridgerant in the sys., since the compressor won't turn on it cant suck any in. When you say check for voltage, you mean check on the car harness side right??

i had recent similar issues with my daily gsr... f you were to take the plug out of the compressor clutch switch and put a paper clip in it (by passing the switch), does the compressor kick in? if it does, i would think your compressor's good and it's your swtich... that's what i thought with my system until i realized after different switches that my system was just low on refridgerant... and then i found leaks in the system

hmmm... again, i'm no A/C person by any means, but i think you should add refridgerant first... get one of those cans with a pressure guage... get a small/cheap one and several refill bottles.

Hmmm i'll have to look into that. I thought there was no way for R-134 to enter the sys w/o the compressor on....?
And another thing, i ran a long wire from the battery to the compressor (with motor running) and the compressor completely stopped itself from turning, like it jammed itself (belt kept going/squeeling against pulley). Wtf is up with that???

Compressor will not turn unless there is refrigant in system, I believe it senses the pressure then once it gets to that level it will turn.
I have recharged A/C several times before and did right before EXPO and it blew ice cold.

yep, that's what my understanding is.

I read that too. So with that being said, how would i get refridgerant in the sys. if i cant get the compressor to turn???
I suck at teh ac install

This link has a great writeup on how to charge your A/C.
Unless you have the tools and parts, easiest thing is to take it to a shop to recharge the freon if everything is hooked up correctly.
You need to get a vacuum pump to vacuum the system, then you can add freon. Compressor will turn once you get enough pressure in the system. Obviously the car needs to be running.

One other important step, make sure you change the receiver/dryer or the A/C will not work properly. The receiver/dryer goes bad if it is vented to the atmosphere which is almost always when someone removes a A/C system. Even if they did not it is always good to change it.
I tried to be cheap and not change the one on the car and the A/C never cooled enough, I changed it out with a new one, vacuumed, recharged the system and A/C was running great for the drive down to EXPO in 100 degree heat...
