Pm users 117 and 577HondaPrelude for 5th gen and Chris F for 4th gen. They have Honda Challenge race cars and will be able to give you an idea of how light the Prelude chassis can get.

No, the sound deadening from a 4th gen is about 15lbs total. 1 Wal-Mart bag full

40lbs, i thought is was only like 20. i was gonna do that but i am debating on the idea of being able to resell it. vs lighter car i guess i could always dynamat it before i sell.

My 5th gen is about 2450lbs without driver and 1/4th tank of gas, and 100ish lbs of rollcage. It's not a streat car so everything other than the parts needed to make it go down the track have been removed.

my 1996 4th gen weighed in at 2778lbs without me in it and a full tank of gas. By full i mean it was actually full, full bars. I removed the spare tire and jack, lighter wheels but not by that much, and a few other power mods that lighten it up but really not by much. I also have a full leather interior. I am still retaining all the luxuries like heated seats, ps, cc, ac, etc.

heres the picture. The scale was to far away to get a shot of the car on the scale with a picture of the scale.

1 260 kilograms = 2 777.8245 pounds

I dont get people that care so much about a few extra pounds on the dd street cars. Unless you are building a track/strip car ... who cares? To the op... you have a 400whp car that weighs around 2800lbs... isnt that enough? I am just trying to understand where your coming from. Thx

no this is not my dd anymore, and no 400whp is not enough in a 3000 lb car thats why im lightening it. plus its all free, and i can always put the interior back in with a couple days work, well worth it to see how it improves at the track.

thanks prudzlude thats exactly what i wanted to know, i was wondering what all my turbo parts are adding to the weight of the car, beacuase i know my 3 inch steel intercooler piping, exhaust, plus huge intercooler isnt helping, not to mention a 30 lb snail.

no problem. keep in mind the 96 is one of the lighest of the 4th gens. I think the 93 is the heaviest. Might be the 95 that is lighter though. Also, if its not your DD then i suggest scraping the sound deadening off, take the dash cover off and gut all the vents, useless metal brackets (there are lots under there), and the blower motor. should shed another 50lbs by doing that. Plus, lexan windows if you ever decide to go that far.

I thought the 93 was the lightest? In any case, my 93 weighs 2905 with me in it, at the track, so only about 4 gallons of gas, but without me, it weighs 2670, since I weigh 235. I have removed cruise and a/c, still have abs and p/s though. c/f hood, no spare or jack at the track, still had stereo, door and decklid speakers, 2 amps, and all seats/carpet/sound deadening.

nvm, just faq'd it and all the 92-96 vtecs weighed the same at 2932lbs stock. interesting faq though, the 92-96 vtecs have the largest injectors of any of the preludes motors at 345cc. The 5th gens are only 280cc.

IMO 400whp is ALOT of power, prolly more than 99.9% of the people ever need/ or is able to handle. With that said, it is not always the power to weight ratio that can make a car fast. Around corners, extra weight makes the car harder to handle. Lightening the car itself is more advantageous no matter what the car is used for. It takes less power from the engine to move a lighter car. During a corner, your normal acceleration will be less with less mass, therefore, your tires will not need to be as sticky to turn. Or if you have stickier tires, then you can corner at a higher speed. There are many more advantages to a lighter car but that's a different topic.

Yeah well when your pushing that much HP weight is the last thing you need to worry about. Traction is the biggest concern.

Alot of aftermarket parts will weight less.

yeah 400 is more than enough for the streets, but not too much to handle, if it were rear wheel drive then yeah, that would be scary but front wheel drive is different. im not tracking it at a autox im running it at the dragstrip.
