I'm very new to tuning. I have yet to even finish reading the Wiki for the first time. I was planning on buying CromePro this weekend. But I have been doing some reading on eCtune. What does everyone think would be the better option between the 2? I am nervious about eCtune not having auto tune which seems like it would be very good for a beginner. If you had to choose one to learn on which would it be? How critical of a tool is the auto tune? Thanks. If I knew how to make a poll I would.
from what I've read on autotune it doesn't work good at all. ectune is on par with neptune and s300 in terms of features and running stable. imo ectune>cromepro
if you're going to use an emulator I would definetly go with ectune

And Yes you have to use an emulator with eCtune. Unless you get a tuners license. Only then can you burn chips with eCtune.
An emulator, such as the Moates Ostrich, is a must have for either piece of ROM editing software in my opinion.
I have been playing with eCtune for a few weeks and it does have the easy to use thing going for it. I haven't seen anything that is miles above and beyond the latest version of Crome Pro using the Gold ROM for the average DIY'r.
NOTE: I have not used eCtune on the road or seen it in action on the dyno yet. So my input is strictly from a user/feature point of view.
Autotune is not something you should rely on. If you think it will help a "noob tuner" it won't. You should still read up and learn how to tune in 2D or 3D vs the autotune/table tuning.

I still plan to read the Wiki atleast 4 more time.
Why cant you burn chips? So you always have to leave your Ostrich plugged in? I dont know if I like that. Are they planning on releasing the chip burning later?

If your looking to buy eCtune I would suggest the $99 DIY license if any. Because the $199 for Pro isn't worth it. I think you only get three more racing related functions and you still can't burn chips. It's a license function that they have incorporated into the software. you need the Tuner license and even then it tracks every chip you burn......
I'm not looking forward to having my Ostrich strapped under my dash at all. Specially after paying $200 for "Pro Tuning software" when I already have Crome Pro and you can burn as many chips as you want. Lesson learned, read everything before buying so called Pro tuning software. It is easy to use the functions and figure everything out if that's what your looking for!

crome free version+freelog=$0
if you're looking to just learn first this maybe a better option maybe. although i would still think about getting a emulator just to speed things up so you don't have to burn a chip everytime you make a change.
