Default driving a stage 2 clutch

hey i just put in the stage 2 competition clutch and i was wondering if driving a stage 2 clutch is supposed to be a tiny bit harder to get it going from a stop or not. (u need to rev it a little higher than normal?)...my idle is at 1100 and i need to get it to 2000 to get a comfortable engage or let it out slowly from 1500 to get it going. from idle if i slowly let it out, it starts to shake. is this typical of the clutch or could it be a problem with the way the transmission is bolting to the block (not tight enough).

I installed the clutch, PP and lighter flywheels all at the same time FYI.

If I let out to early it does shudder a bit, but my whole front end is pretty stiff with a traction bar setup and pretty stiff springs.

If your transmission is not bolted tightly enough to the block you have bigger problems and I would fix that immediately.

yea, i also just put in the innovative mounts (black) which are pretty stiff so that could add to the shudder...the transmission is bolted pretty tightly to the block, all except maybe just 1 bolt. and what stage clutch did u get?

I got an Exedy Stage 2 3-pick thin disk. It's lighter than the thick disc

the bolts are tight and i think it could just be clutch chatter. is this normal? whatis the definition of clutch chatter?

i think your fine since it is a very "sticky" clutch so it will want to grab quick, and not get rubbed around. How is it when you drop the clutch quick? doe sit grab nice?

you are probably experiencing clutch chatter. did you resurface the flywheel when you installed the new clutch?

i would be careful running this clutch (thin disk), it doesnt last very long and the pads always break apart

however the thick disc is a bad a$$ clutch even for built motors

and that would be a three PUCK......

Mine is a stage 3 and definitely shutters if you let it out too fast. It grabs very hard. I found it best to launch at about 2800-3000 on mine to eliminate wheel spin.

Yea it's fine if you let it out slow. I drive it to work everyday and i don't find it annoying.

yea mines ok when u let it out slow...but u just have to let it out really slow to get in smooth. i did a small launch (3500-4k) yesterday and there was no chatter there it grabbed nicely and i hooked and i was out

It's worked fine for almost 5 years dude. Just like the day it was installed...the pads do not always break apart, might want to check your sources on that one again.

I realize it's PUCK, if you look at the 'U' and 'I' keys on the keyboard you will see that they are right next to each other, obviously a typo. No need to be a smarta$$.

i have an 8lb flywheel and a stage one clutch in my 98 so i understand how it is with the different setups. i also had a stage2 clutch kit with the stock flywheel on my 91. both of them seem to like taking off at about 2k rpms for daily driving.

i see....the only reason why i ask is because the clutch i was replacing was an act (not sure what stage or model disc)... but it had 6 springs in the disc (performance street?). and with that clutch, i was able to get it going from an idle without any throttle. i definitely cannot do that now without it shaking on me.

sorry, wasnt trying to be a smart ***. didnt mean too **** you off.

have you actually pulled your thin disk out and checked it?? because if you havent you would never know the pads have cracked and come apart.....until you are at the track on slicks and you notice the clutch slipping SLIGHTLY.

but you would have to be a very consistant drag racer and actually notice every little thing that happens while going down the track @ 119 mph

otherwise like i said you would think your thin disk is holding up just fine and working well, not knowing the ends of the pads have cracked and come apart and have caused your rotating assembly to now be out of balance

btw, my sources are my personal experience as well as my fellow racers personal experience and believe it or not EXEDY themselves recomending not to run this clutch in a dd or for drag as it was designed soley as a lightened road race clutch designed to be replaced as needed in road race applications for actuall racers

if theres anything else i can help you w/ please let me know

I just got mine broke in. It seemed to get even better after about 800miles. I also had quite a bit of chatter initially. Now it only seems kinda rough when using reverse. A very good clutch IMO. Just let it break in dude, it should be fine. BTW , how much did you pay for the kit?

whats a good range for brake in. i herd it was a tank of gas but on this site i see people going up to 1000 miles for brakeing in a new clutch.
I'm doing my h22 swap this week and i'm putting in a F1 racing stage one kit and a 11lb flywheel.
