Default adjust coilovers

is the spring supposed to be able to move around freely when the car is raised? For example, when i adjusted the coilovers, i loosened the (2)perches and rotated them down and tightened them while the spring could move up and down. is this wrong?

am i supposed to keep the springs up where the spring is firm against the top hat? and then twist the whole bottom portion upward making the part with the threads move downward into the bottom of the strut?

im sorry im so confusing but i know SOMEBODY has to know what i'm talking about.

...and is this why i'm losing alot of my performance as far as the suspension goes because my friend has coilovers and are way different in terms of handling and roughness then mine. (*me knowing he has totally different spring rates)

What kind of coilovers? It all depends. Some brands you can preload the springs and others they seat properly when the car is on the ground

You should keep the springs tight against the top hat.
