honda prelude 2.3 needs head--what heads swap possibilities are there?
hi guys, i bought a 94 prelude with 2.3 motor and popped head. bought a headset for a 2.3 expecting to put on gasket, just to find before installation a crack in cylinder 3. car was interchanging oil with antifreeze as a symptom and overheated.
it seems like the 2.3s are a rarer motor than the 2.2 varieties, no local yards kingston ny have one. are there any direct good replacements in place of using a 2.3?
i know 2.2 vtec can swap in fully dressed form, manifolds, valve covers etc. but looking for simpler fix.
anybody got a used 2.3? or knows about a remanufacturing source? can any accord or accura heads directly fit? some help to get a daily runner back on the road would be appreciated!
thanks jason

Just get an H23 head from ebay or a forum for sale thread. Also, don't just say 2.3 because you might get an F23.
hi thanks for the reply, but there are none on ebay!
could not respond to anything but their own thread on this site, it keeps saying "do not have permission"--are trial users banished from responding? doesn't really make sense to me
in any case, i really wanted to respond to Snowblind7x's Honda Head H23 for $100 or best offer: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2127340
thank you for helping out

You have to post a bit and just have patience and you will graduate from being a trial user eventually. It doesn't take too long...
You never know what will pop up on eBay, check every day.

Ok i keep looking and waiting , but really want to know what heads would work (from accord, acura?) using stock intake or parts ingredients list?
i can tell you guys all the details about mad swaps about subarus, across the entire fleet, and benefits of each? any honda guys up for the question?
thanks, jason

Why do you want to use a different head so bad?
Things that can be made to fit are an H22 head, H23 head, F20 or F22 head (not F20 or F22 from the S2000).
An Accord F22 head will work, and the only Acura head you will get to work is the same F22 head from the CL. It's a downgrade from DOHC to SOHC so I don't see the point.

Need 2.3 head or 2.2 vtech--Anybody has one for sale for me or the number to a yard that may carry one? Otherwise, i am back to the original question of what else i can swap....
the reason why i am anxious to swap is just that i am anxious to finish a project so it doesn't keep occupying my work space, but wasn't yet able to find a 2.3 head.
i have the accord head but it doesn't seem worth degrading a motor, you are absolutely right. i thought accord may have made something slicker.
i also have a 1989 1.8 accura that i was thinking about a turbo project for. would that be a good candidate for the honda prelude?
thanks jason

Search the honda-tech For Sale section, there should be at least a few for sale there. You can also check car-part.com . It's like a salvage yard search-engine.

windyballs, if you're looking for the simple fix do not replace with a H22 head. If you're looking for the easy fix, just find another H23 head. These are all the parts you would need to make the H22 head work. You'd also need to have it tuned to run properly if you went this route.
h22a head 93+(USDM) or 92+ (JDM) with all internals and valve cover
h22a thermostat housing
h22a waterpipe
h22a waterpump
h22a headgasket
h22a lower crank gear
h22a timing belt
h22a headbolts
h22a plug wires
h22a intake manifold (injectors perfered)
h22a header and downpipe
h22a cam gears
h22a top timing belt covers
h22a power steering braket (h23 doesn't line up right)

being trial user sucks!
i thought it was only 5 days, but it has been over a week.
i don't know why i am being banished!
so here is my email, FINESKILLS@JUNO.COM--please email with offer for h23. my phone is (845) 338 7638. How about $150 shipped to NY? I can paypal, am a verified user, and a 500+ebay user. i would like to see a photo of the head before paying for it
thanks VINUNEURO for the ingredients list for h22, you got it down and know your stuff, that's for sure....your list should be permanently put into some hybrid mod forum section! I don't want to lowball anybody on a vtech head, seems like to buy a jdm motor is the way to go, simpler and easier, unless you have a lot of donor cars with bad lower ends.
thanks to all for responding, i thought my thread was dead and nobody cared, like my honda
