Default 18.49 volts at 7k+ rpm!!!!! 3 month old alternator....

so three months ago my alternator took a crap on me, about time 214k miles old. So i bought a new one from ebay here is the link.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...83967

It has been great up to about a week ago. I was driving at night and i hit mad vtack y0! and right at about 7k rpm my lights got super bright and the battery light came on. So today i datalogged and it showed 18.49 volts past 7k rpms. so im guessing its a bad voltage regulator? I wanted to see what you guys think before i call this guy.

I cleaned all the grounds today and it didnt change anything.

Thank in advance!

Sounds like a regulator to me...that's the only thing controls what comes out of that thing.

Yep, my AutoZone alternator was doing the same thing after about 6 months. I didn't have a volt meter hooked up but my charging system light would come on anytime I went past 6K. If I left my dome light on you could watch it get real bright as soon as the charging light came on. The thing that sucks the most is that thE alternator will still pass the test at places like AutoZone because their testing equipment only runs the alternator at about 2K. So until you reach the 5.5 to 7K RPM the alternator acts perfectly normal.

the regulator is gone you can just replace it or take it to a repair shop but that would be a little expensive or do it yourself but you need a good knowledge of alternators though...
