Default jdm h22a confusion

i recently bought a 98 prelude for 5500 like a week ago and today i found out that it has a jdm h22a in it instead of the h22a1 the mechanic that told me this said that it had like 215 hp or something like that but when i looked at some h22a's for sale they had a red valve cover and this one has a black one i saw one that was black and it was for the 95 model and it had 200 hp so im confused is mine that (95 model) or is mine the the other one just with a black valve cover. oh and how much would i cost to turn an automatic prelude into a manual prelude because my tranny is messed up and it would cost me like 1400 to fix.
sorry its kind of a long question

The red valve cover that you see is I believe the JDM Type S motor. I could be wrong though I have a terrible memory.

first off your car never had an h22a1, it came with an h22a4. the non type-s jdm engines are all 197 hp.

id like to add that everyone should stop guess at what motor they have by the color of the valve cover.

The valve cover can be painted easily now adays.

The is an Engine Code on the block. I suggest you find it and read it.

If you want to do a manual conversion...find a manual donor car, you'll need pretty much EVERYTHING off that car that makes it a manual.

It can get expensive quickly. Your best bet is to find a wrecked shell or something along those lines for cheap, with a good trans under the hood.
