3" no question about it. The bigger the exhaust on a turbo car, the better

You can go to big, I would go with 3 inch tho any thing else will be over kill unless you have a gt4088R or some thing around that area. IF you listened to that guy and went with bigger the turbo would take longer spooling among other problems I dont feel like going into....

On the side if you're asking a question like this most likely you're not ready to build a 400HP car. If you really wanna go for it get ready to spend around 3,000 on a H23 built and sleeved. A gt35 or SC61 along with every thing else you need to push out that power. Youre looking to spend around 8,000 when every thing is done. You will also need new tires if you wanna hook up. Just keep it simple and start out small. We didnt shoot for mars when we went into space the first step is just getting there...

One6 does has been doing a lot of H motors so that might be a shop you wanna check out. Don't forget about every thing else you will need beside the build turbo motor.

why an h22 already???

h23 has bigger stroke. I don't know why everybody knocks h23's. I'd say with a sightly lower compression too, h23's would be ideal for boosted setups.

3" would probably be a better choice. Than just go with a muffler that comes with a silencer. Its easier to reduce sizes than to increase them. You want a free flowing exhaust with a well flowing turbo system though.

4"...thats over kill. Probably wouldn't sound the best would it? I never heard the sound from a 4" exhaust on a turbo prelude (400 hp). Whats it sound like anyway?

The best exhaust for turbo is no exhaust. You want as little restriction as possible so that wheel can spin as free as it wants to.

bigger exhausts on turbo set ups? who would have ever thought that would work?

now what you COULD do would be 2 1/2 all the way back so you get that extra street power, and just have one of those 3 inch electronic exhaust openings. more power when you need it. the exhaust like this is open right after the cat or test pipe which ever you have and its like what hawkze was saying just not completely no exhaust.

you should probably look up some things on the turbo prelude thread or spend some time in the FI forum here on HT. it answers a lot of questions that you might have still and will also have dyno charts on bigger exhausts with turbo setups. which...yes, will prove that larger exhausts on FI setups will get you more power out of your build.

oh yeah and the thing about h23's being better then h22's on boost? i would seriously like to hear your valid reasoning on this with proof. neither engine is safe unless being sleev'd.
