Definitely an amateur. I despise car work to be honest, but enjoy learning.
Somewhat able, but need help sometimes too.
I suppose that if I had no other life besides wrenching, I could be a bit better at it though.

Along with my father and the mighty Helms I think we can do almost anything. The most in depth thing we've had to do so far was a valve adjustment which was a breeze.

Doing everything yourself is so much more gratifying than having someone else do it for you.
It's hard to describe the feeling of accomplishment you have when a part is being stubborn, and armed with a BFH you remove it/install it/make it fit/etc.

I like to do things myself. Save money and time and at the same time, I learn new things. Another good thing is learning how to control my anger

That's what it's all about.

My sole ambition for doing work on my own car started to keep the monkeys at the dealer and shops from fugin my car up. If anyone is going to break her, it's going to be ME damnit! Now I do it just because I like the feeling of getting dirty after sitting behind a computer all day. Plus it makes my dad say things to my mom like "wow, I never thought he would ever do anything involving manual labor, let alone working on his own car, I'm so proud!" --tear--

Oil changes, tire rotations, tune-up's, and instalation of bolt-on perfromance parts are all done by me. If I had a shop and tools I'd probably be able to do 85% of all major work. But since I work 50 hrs a week and dont have a shop. I leave any major repairs/mods to my friends shop.
