Default Problems running a 50 shot...And blowing head gasket.

Ok, so about a month ago I installed an NX kit... Thats where things get interesting. I started off running a 35 shot like NX suggested.... Felt great, ran great. Decided to juice it up a little bit more and go for the 50 shot; not only did it feel slower, it also seemed to be detonating. The same night I had my car running in my friend's driveway for about 45 minutes and to my dismay the temp gauge was almost pegged on red. I took it to the shop and found out that I had a Blown head gasket and the thermostat was stuck. Enough with the B.S. ¿Why was my car detonating with just a 50 shot(and yeah I double checked the pills) and Was this the primary reason for blowing the head gasket?

you should be fine to run a 50 shot on a stock motor no fuel management and you should be able to do it wet or dry. my guess is somethign else was already goign wrong and the nitrous just sped it up.

I also have a question, are you using a bottle heater? Because I know if the bottle isn't at a certain pressure, then the nitrous won't perform as it should.

That might have something to do with your loss of power, not sure on the head gasket bit tho

Alright, it's a wet kit... and I'm not running a pressure gauge or a bottle heater... I know that is stupid... and I believe the correct pressure is between 1000 and 1050 actually...

that is WAY to high imo. 800psi is a good number. the machinist i use has build motors for 9 time world champion drag cars and has personally ran a 7second rail car and says to run at 800 and i trust his opinion. but it up to you what you run.

also keep in mind that it is more important to stay consistant in other words always run at hte same psi. every 100psi you ad will change your time by 0.10 seconds (assuming your that consistant). but the more pressure you run the more likely your going to detonate. which could very well have been your problem.

did you change out hte fuel pump in order to give it hte extra boost of fuel that is required by the wet kit? that could also have been your problem.

also do you have a WOT switch? do you spray at low rpms? without a WOT switch or by spraying below about 3k you could run inot problems also

I was just going by what NX recommended on the pressure.... Yeah, I use a wot switch. and I didn't change out the fuel pump because I didn't realize that was necessary.... I guess a better pump with a return line and an FPR wouldn't be a bad deal in case I ever went turbo or something.

nx might have different recomendations then. but either way its still good to monitor the pressure. at least with a pressure gauge at the bottle.

i dont know that the fuel upgrades are required but they'd certainly help and if your planning turbo then they'd definitely be a plus.

i have a walboro 255 and a megan fpr for my setup.

BTW, what shot do you run? And if you don't mind me askin, what has been your best quarter mile time? I have yet to run mine at the track. The last time I went I borrowed a set of slicks from one of my friends and ran a 15.45 all motor so I'm pretty excited to
see what happens.

what other mods do you have to run a 15.45 on a D17 all motor?

I've only run using my autometer dpic because the lights were down at the track the night i was up there (going again a week from 2nite). but ive run a 14.6@102 on a 20 shot. i think that this time is rather generous tho and expect to run consistantly in the 15s when its all said and done i will be running a 55 shot and should hit consistant 14s. right now im still getting used to how the car feels

i plan on running bracket races competatively next season if all goes well.
