rollbar question
Having a HELL of a time getting a rollbar made. I just got screwd by a shop and it cost me missing ITRexpo8 at VIR. I want a safe rollbar under 500$ and i want to use stock seat belts still. I don't want some west coast, aluminum, hardparking rollbar either. lol. and i don't want full cage.
Any suggestions?
who all has put a 4pt bar in their s2k and where did you buy it/have it made? also, how much did you pay and can you/do you still you stock seat belts? I really REALLY really would like to see pictures of both the bar inside the car and outside the car if possible. Thanks

safety21/cusco arent fia approved and vir wont allow them on the track for 2 reasons...
1. bolted together
2. bent brace pipes

the bar i was trying to get made was an exact copy of my friends harddog. but that fell through. and i think that 700$ is a lil steep for 2 bends and 10 welds. it's only a 20ft bar.
has anyone else heard of the GLF from the first thread posted here? what does that stand for? i really like the looks of it, it has a dia. bar and it uses stock belts
but it looks like passenger seating would be a prob.
anyone know fo sho?

Westcoast
Hardparking
Anyways......
Find yourself a good fabricator and you can have just what you want and legal.
I can arrange some done here in socal for those interested in those "westcoast hard parking" rollbars.
Also under $500 for a fabbing aint gonna happen.
Cost of metal has gne up a bit so it isn't cheap. Plus u need totake into account
Do you want a harness bar, still use you softtop, leg room etc.... things like this will play a factor in the amount you spend. If you want it done right just to your liking and still meet standards custom is the way to go.

Yep, tell that to the guy who rolled off the side of the dragon, even the OEM crash proof windshield support crushed, but his "poorly designed" Cusco "west coast hardparker" bar saved his head.

If you don't like the prices, buy a pipe bender and a welder and do it yourself. When you are done and it's RIGHT, report back and let me know if it's worth 700 bucks!
I am not trying to be a dick, but for one, you are regurgitating BS information about a roll bar that works fine for what it was designed for, roll over crash protection.
Then you are insulting a mans worth when it comes to building a cage. A good tig welder, $4000, a pipe bender that will do what it's supposed to to, not cheap at all. Then let's add up the YEARS of experience needed to learn to fabricate a product nice enough and sturdy enough to both be paid for and support the car and protect the driver in a crash. It's neither cheap nor easy, he's got to feed his family too.
You got to pay to play plain and simply and good parts don't come cheap.

i stand behind fia when i say cusco is for parking lot use only. I don't need a bar that won't let me go on track. IMO no fia approval= cosmetic use only.
but... has anyone seen the GLF touring bar in person or used it? it's from the first thread that chris posted here from s2ki. I would like to research this bar more but have never heard of glf so i don't know what it stands for, where to buy, or price.

sorry but thats total
remember in the good ol U.S of A we tend to OVER ENGINEER things, so that is not to say the safety 21/cusco/spoon will not help.
cage or not its just a helping factor, in some cases it can be the killing factor.
dont knock something that does its job.
if you want a custom one folk out the $ if not then keep on trucking

I don't want to buy a rollbar that some tracks will not let me drive on because the bar is not approved. BS or not, if you track you need a better bar than the cusco for that reason. a bar that doesn't let me on all the tracks i want to go to is completely and utterly useless.

word, you can find competely plastics interior for 50$ sometimes used. i also want to create a way to keep a some what stock look. i wish honda would've just saved us the headache by making a really good (and giant) factory bar. i'm 6'1 so i'm over the stock hoops even in my bucket seats on really low rails. i'm thinking about having the area between the back of the truck and the back of the seats painted black so with all the convertible top trays out and everything it will look a lil more 'stock' than the unfinished paint and sound deadening exposed.
i might just get the hard dog w/out the harness bar shipped for $610. if it will let me use stock belts then i won't need harnesses until the car is actually racing.

GFL = Go Fast Lab. They don't exist anymore. The design of their bars was sold to Bethania garage who make the Hard Dog bar. So the Hard Dog bar is the same as the GFL, except they fixed it for better fitment. And the hard dog bar starts at $500 without harness or diagonal. With removable harness bar it's $600.

Can you arrange some done a la Mugen style with the two small diagonal bars leaving the middle open so the secret compartment can be used? And a removable harness bar? BTW, exactly what's a west coast hard parking roll bar? Just curious.

awsome. thanks for the info. i just got finished talking to bethinia garage. it turns out the one they just made for my friend they are about to release as their 'competition model' and it will be available in a 2 week period just like their other ones. they want us to send pics of the car with the bar in it now, and they didn't tell him but it was also designed to use stock seat belts. so probably going to fork over the cash and get one of those.

That's interesting news. So how will it differ from one of their existing bars? You can still use the OEM seat belts? Did they tell you the price on this "competition model?"

differnce is it's made for oagers. it's a very tall bar that is for people 6''3ish that still need to clear a rollbar with a helmet on and use softtop. the long metal brace that the seatbelt are bolted to have to be trimmed in order for it to fit. he paid 670$ shipped. they didn't give me a quote on it though when i just called. i forgot to ask cause i assumed 670.

no prob. i'm either making 1 last ditch effort at having a local shop copy this bar for cheap or biting the bullet and buying it from them. for 670. i strongly recommend to anyone out there not to cheap out by not buying a bar w/out a diagonal. also, i've learnd there are some tracks that require harnesses for convertibles so if you are going to track make sure your bar has a harness bar.
