Dealer wants $95 to scan SRS code?! wtf Any way around it?
Okay so I just bought another em2 but the SRS light is on.
I did the SRS reset trick with the service connector/paper clip and that reset it for about 10 seconds but it keeps coming back on (meaning that there is a faulty component which can be aribag, seatbelt, front impact sensor, or the srs unit itself).
It WAS involved in a light rear end hit, I pulled the rear bumper and the only damage was that the styrofoam impact bar was cracked (fragile anyways), and the metal impact bar is very slightly bent. Doesnt look like enough impact to set off airbags.
SO
I asked the previous owner, he said the airbags never went off because the impact was 10 mph, if that. So I am thinking it is an issue with the seatbelt tensioners (which are also connected to the SRS according to the service manual).
I read somewhere that seatbelt components are covered under a lifetime free warantee?
Is this true?
If it's true, then I shouldnt have to pay the $95 for the diagnostic scan, because it is part of the service procedure for replacing the seatbelts, correct?
Anything else I can do, anywhere else I can go???
HELP!

try going to a junkyard and getting a new tensioner off of a stock seat. sometimes even in a light accident, the tensioner might have to be replaced, like you assumed.
are your seats stock?

most common cause for the SRS light on these cars are the front belt buckles. There is a TSB on it. salvage titles do void seat belt warranties, however, they rarely check. Usually a valid registration with an ID with a matching name is all they ask for.
I just hope it's the seat belt tensioners.
The car does NOT have a salvage title, so would I be able to just waltz on into Honda and have them check the "seat belts" aka SRS system aka waive the $95 charge?
Can anybody confirm the "free" seat belt warantee thing?
Thanks broski's..

If the buckles are the problem they will replace them for free, if it's not the problem they will charge you a diagnostics fee, anywhere from 90-100 dollars. I had my driverside one replaced a while ago after failing inspection for the SRS lights.

Yea but the thing is, in order to simply check and see if the seatbelts are the problem, they have to run the diagnostic test. So after they run the test and find out its not the seatbelts, im out $100? Sucks. Damned if I do damned if I dont.

Good chance for the seatbelt. But ever if it's not you would not be "out" 100 bucks. You would know what the problem is. Not wasting your time and money replacing parts you don't need. You could always ck it yourself. It will flash codes, if you ground the scs connector.
I think you have the right idea about spending the $95 at the dealer to at least find out what the problem is.
However, I think you have the wrong idea about the SRS service connector, because I already completed the SRS reset and it did not permanently go away. When you jump the connector, it doesnt give you the flash sequences that translate to codes. Maybe you are thinking of the check engine light jumper?

The mechanic I was getting my car inspected at scanned the SRS system and it came back to be the belt buckles, he had the same problem with his Honda so he knew what it was. Told me to take it to the dealer and they will fix it for free.
I tried the paperclip method and it didn't work.

My passenger seat belt does not stay lock and now the srs light is on. I took it in to the dealer and the service person told me that's a common problem on our model. The warranty will fix the belt and in order to get the srs light checked, you will sign the fee... but if the srs light is on because of the faulty seat belt then the warranty will cover the srs light as well and you wont have to pay the fee. But if the srs light is on for some other reason, the fee will go towards the repair.
