Side Air Bags and SRS
Hello everyone, how is everyone doing?
I tried searching for the issue I am about to ask about and I am not sure if I am posting in the right forum. I couldn't not find a forum that exactly tailors the question that I have.
I have a 2008 Honda Civic and I purchased two racing seats for it. The vehicle has side air bags in the seats and I need to find a way to simulate the resistance of the air bags so that when I swap my seats out the SRS system will still be functional.
I am very hesitant to take a multimeter to the bags b/c I fear that it may blow them. I also have not been very successful in finding out what the ohm resistance is or if that will even work. In addition, I do not want to just remove the light from the dash b/c that would just render my SRS system useless.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

this is the same shop manual the dealerships use.
they're also releasing an electrical troubleshooting manual for 06-08 civics, but it's not currently out.
Someone else may be able to help you more, but a service manual is good thing to have.

your not going to be able to obtain you srs system with the new seats. the computer is smarter than you think. and if you could fool it to thinking it was still stock it wouldnt be 100%. if you dont care about your safety, or if your a track car than go for it.
Let me explain a little further.
I NEED to find a way to get this to work. I purchased a 2008 Civic Hybrid. The seats are TERRIBLE. The permanent lumbar and stiff seats cause me horrid back pains and I had to do something about it. I looked in to OEM options but I was not able to find anything. Therefore, I purchased aftermarket racing seats. There has to be a way to get this to work. I am not swapping the seats out for fun and I just want to be able to comfortably drive my vehicle with out losing my SRS system.
Does anyone have any other advice?

Would I be correct to assume that this means you looked at the OEM Si seats and they would not work? As for the racing seats.....just don't get hit from the side

We'll I don't know where to find SI seats. I tried to order them from Honda, but you can't order the seats as a whole. You have to order all the parts and then put the seats together.
I would love to just avoid getting hit from the side, but I still need to trick the system to thinking that the side air bags are still installed.
Thanks,
Malik

Not sure on the condition of these since I didn't really read any of the details. The seats are out there, you just have to search for them. If you are wanting to maintain the airbag system, OEM Si seats will be your best option.

you WONT be able to put in racing seats and still have your side airbags. end point.</TD></TR></TABLE>
end point... lolz
Of course you can't have side airbags with aftermarket seats. That's not what the OP is trying to do. He wants the OTHER airbags to still function. The resistor could potentially work to keep the SRS system from being disabled entirely. I don't know enough to help, but neither do you SIVIC 3
