As most of you know I blew a headgasket the other day and was just installing a new one, when I noticed this discolouration on my S2S2 cams. Is this cause for alarm, and if so what should I do to remedy it.

How much torque for the cam caps?

cams caps were torqued at 20 ft lbs on the 12mm bolts and 7 ft lbs on the 10mm bolts.

Normal wear and discoloration i have the same on mine. Your fine.. good torque specs.

LOL, Yeah 1st and 2nd are useless on street tire right now. As you can see i idled out the whole and still smoked them . It was not a full race event so they didn't have any lights up at the end, nor did the have the porttree up. You also have to drive all the way down to turn around. I watched that last night, i thought it was some 89 prelude with a satalite dish and a h swap.. Now that i look closer at the tail lights.. skyline eh? Thats stout.

why does every 3rd person or so have something to say about this dude? wtf? i see people take pictures of there slobbering dogs and people are more respectful on here. dude has a quick *** ctr and everybody comes with this cut ur nails, sklyline was on 3 cylinders, bother by him taking a pic of himself....meanwhile, half of u haters wish u had a 2L ctr.... i honestly don't get it. Team D, good build, nice whip and keep enjoying the hobby

So what else could it be if he isn't over torquing the cam caps and holders? Possibly the oil he is running?

Maybe his torque wrench needs to be recalibrated....

 

its just basic heat wear. from the heat the motor produces it will discolor the cams if they get too hot.

 

its the nitrate coating wearing off. stock honda cams have them,the get over 100,000 miles on them and dont wear off like that. you may wanna get some zinc oil additive. also what oil are you running

 

What assembly lube did you use?

 

I don't think people here realize the proper question to ask?

1. Is that wear?
2. Is the dark coating on the cam Nitride? If not what is it?
3. Related to question 2, what material is da cam.
