I need to remove my transmission...any tips??? (96 EX, automatic)
So i decided that Im going to go ahead and replace my rear main seal myself. I need to drop the transmission to get to the seal.
I have all the tools, air compressor, and jacks. I just never removed a FWD transmission before.
I'm coming from a off-road jeep wrenching background so im sorta clueless to imports and FWD drivetrains.
any tips on how to remove and what i should look for?

in all honesty, best advise is to get yourself a good shop manual like one from Helm Inc. A bit pricey but more than worth it and will pay for itself over and over.
Sometimes you can get lucky and are able to pull the tranny out the side of the vehicle if you remove all the suspension pieces from that side. I know on my friend's 90 Civic Hatch we were able to pull it out the side, but I'm not sure if there's that much room to work with the Accord trannies.
I will probably need to do the same thing pretty soon because the oil leak from the rear main seal gets worse and worse. I have a manual. But, the manual does not mention if I should support the engine by putting a jack under the oil pan. My question is: do I need to support the engine block? Or just use a transmission jack to support and remove the transmission.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks a lot.
