well lately i've taken notice to how my engine sounds. it doenst sound like it knocking, its not like really loud, its just more like a chattering ticking sound. then if i rev it .. it just makes that sound faster.

i'm getting a compression and leakdown test this friday so i'm gunna see what kinda shape my engine is in. but should i be worried about this chatter? i'm gunna just say its valve chatter b/c it probably is.. i'm just a noob. but should i do something about it before i turbo my car or am i ok to go?

 

Open your valve cover and make sure your it's all in spec, do a valve adjustment just to be safe. If it doesn't quit after that. Then you have piston slap, then you get to pull it and replace it with some nice forged pistons then bore your block. Win win situation.

what do i look for to make everything is in check when i take off teh cover? just check for bent valves??

and if it ends up being piston slap .. does that mean no turbo for my stock engine?

i wanna build a d16, you make it sound so easy "just pull it out, bore it, and put some forged internal" i wish it was simple like that

 

Haha, sadly it is that easy to take them out. It's putting everything back together that is the fun part.

naw .. my transmission doenst make any noise.. its just my engine has an ever so slight rattle to it .. i'm not sure if its normal .. or if its more rattel than it should have.. either way .. it doenst sound like my engine is a pos

 

are you sure youre not just hearing injectors pulsing?

 

u know i could be .. i'm not seasoned enough to point out what i'm hearing ..

if it helps .. i got a compression test today and read 185 accross the board w/ no leaks .. maybe that would mean its not my valveS??

 

not really.

take a long screw driver, put it on an injector, put it to your ear and see if its the click youre hearing.

Try tightening it....

 

does this engine have high mileage? a lot of high mileage honda motors that Ive been around make the common ticking sound which I believe a lot of times its just the valves needing adjustment.
