Default Apexi S-AFC in a EM2

Hey guys.

My cousin had a apexi S-AFC controller in his evo8. He recently took it out and told me I should put it in my EM2 if I wasn't goin to convert my car to v-tec. He says its better than chipping my ecu since my car is a auto. Anyone ever use this controller in the EM2's and have any opinions about it. Thanks for any replys.

Switchover point from low to high throttle, adjust your air/fuel consumption. Things like that.

So you're going to pay dyno time and chop up your ECU harness (unless you buy a converter) for what...maybe 2 HP gained because of this device?

My cousin said it was worthless to get a tune since all i have done to my car is header, intake, and a muffler (full exhaust in the future). He said if i got like a turbo or anything else to that caliber then i should get a tune. Plus he said he would sell it to me for 100 bucks.

$100 for that is a good deal..right now I have the apexi neo in and it was installed before I got my turbo with 2 hours of street tuning..and i gained 10 hp with full exhaust, headers, stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel. So it was an OK gain but not worth the $500 I spent for the unit and tuning..If you are looking to get good power gains on our d17 TURBO IS THE ONLY WAY any other upgrades really dont do to much..unless you are talking fully build engine... So personally for $100 and another $150 for 2 hours of tuning I think that it would be worth it even if you dont gain alot of hp the feel of the car is a lot better it will excellerate a lot better if you get it tuned good...SO GO FOR IT Y NOT

Thanks for the input. I was considering it but wasnt sure if it would be worth it. Now i think i will. Acceleration is one thing our D17's don't have expecially without v-tec. lol. Thanks again.

You will see little or no horsepower gain from a piggyback ecu on a D17 if you go N/A. Buy it if you go turbo but the only way youll see anything power is if you go with a kpro

So, just to get this straight...

You have an automatic, non-vtec D17 Civic that you've added an intake, header and axle-back exhaust to.

Seems you're used to spending money for little power additions, so the SAFC should fit right into your plans.

Sorry to hijack this thread but i want to know something somewhat related to this. I am interested in doing a k-swap in my EM2 this fall, prob k20a. I am aiming for roughly 300 to 350 reliable hp after mods and tuning and what not. Now I am seeing a lot of people boosting their D17's and getting similar numbers to this. How reliable is the D17 when it is pushed this far? The car is my DD but I also want to give it some track time here and there. What would i need to do to the ECU to go boost?

OK what about reliability tho? I figure it would prob cost close to the same amount to do either k-swap plus bolt-ons, vs built d17 with turbo. Pushing 300 to 350 hp, will the D17 typically run into problems and constantly need money poured into it? I have seen lots on here with boosted D17's but not much discussion on reliability

lol, an SAFC is the LAST thing youd want to use to tune boost. And it probably wouldn't do you much with a K swap either. In either case youd want a hondata K pro with a good tune. If you think the price is too steep. too bad, you gotta pay to play.
