ok so when i drive my 98 LS integra up to about 5,000+ RPM's i hear this rattling noise it sounds like a bolt is loose or something but i checked everything and it seems to be all good so im not sure why its making this sound, anyone ever had this problem? i asked my friends and they said it could be my valves and to get them check out and something about getting retuned, i just recently installed my cold air intake but i seem to have had the problem before i installed it

They only advice i can give you you to use a screw driver like a stethascope (SP) have someone hold the rpms where you here the rattling noise and put the tip of the screw drive where you think it is coming from and put your ear up to the other end (the handle part) this will limit where the noise is coming from... Hope this trick will help you find the rattleing noise

You're engine could be pinging. Does this happen when accelerating? Does it sound like marbles bouncing around in your engine?

does happen when im accelerating, not sure if it sounds like that but it does sound like somethings rattling like bolts, what does pinging mean and is it bad

 

Pinging is the same as your engine knocking. But if your engine was knocking, it should be throwing a code. Do you have any check engine lights on?

 

yea my check engine light is on, because i took off my catalyc converter like 2 weeks ago, and never got the light turned off, i was putting on my test pipe to see how it would sound so i disconnected the o2 sensor or w/e and so i didnt like the sound, i took out the testpipe and put back my stock converter with the o2 sensor back in and the check engine light has been on ever since

my friend told me to bring it to a shop and let them turn the light off, something about having to get it retuned so the light goes back off?

isnt it bad when your engine is knocking? i only have 103,000 original miles on the car

 

checked all my bolts and ect everything looks pretty good, it only happens when i accelerate, like when i step on the gas all the way up to 5,000rpm and up it makes the rattling sound, other then that its good

 

you didn't mention your transmission, is that good?

mines bad so the tranny rattles

 

yea my tranny is good, no grinds or pop outs
