Default 92 Accord auto transmission fluid flush - procedure & cost? (lost 4th & Reverse)

I recently lost 4th & Reverse gears on my 92 Accord (1st - 3rd are there). When the car goes to engage either gear nothing happens - the engine just revs. My temporary solution is to keep it in D3, park up on inclined spots and make sure I don't get into any situations that would require me to reverse.

I have a feeling that it's a selanoid issue, but I want to first flush my tranny fluid in hopes of that fixing my issue. In the 195k miles on the car the fluid has only been replaced once. I think it might have been like 90k miles ago. I couldn't find any DIY on the web. I already have 3 quarts of the Honda oil. I called that 10 minute oil change place and they want $70 to get it flushed.

Does anyone have instructions on how to do this myself? What is a good local place to get it flushed - or would any shop do just a good a job.

Thanks for the help

If your transmission fluid has 100k on it. Your lucky you have 1 threw 3. Sounds like your 4th gear clutch is gone. Flushing probably wont help, but if you want to to flush a honda you have to drain and fill and then drive and repeat process or go somewhere and pay 80-100+ bucks to have them flush it with a fluid exchanger machine. Also if you have solenoid issues usally to D light will flash indicating an issue.

I felt 4th slipping for a while before I lost it completely one day driving to work on a highway. The car simply went out of gear. A few days later Reverse was gone. I'm planning on replacing the car, so I figure why not try a flush to see if that might fix my issue... maybe even temporarily.

As for the D flash, my light burned out a while ago, so I have no way of easily being able to tell what the problem actually is. I remember about 8 years back I would get the D flash intermittently during the summer and it felt like the car was in limp mode. But that hasn't been happening since that time.

Just got the tranny flush done. It didn't help. Next step is to add that Transmission Slip additive. I already picked it up at AutoZone for $10. Will put it in later today.

The Transmission Slip additive did not work. It's a Mechanical problem as mentioned in the original reply to this thread.

Just wanted to close the loop on this one in case anyone reads this in the future. I picked up a used '91 transmission from a junkyard for $250. I had a shop install it for another $250. Total: $500. Not too bad.
