Default What tranny fluid to use?

I went to the local Jiffy Lube yeseterday because I hate acura dealers out here. Anyways I was going to have them flush my tranny and refill it. They told me they couldn't because it takes a special fluid...??? I figured any 10w-30 would work...am I wrong? They recommended going to my dealer to have it done, which I don't really want to do. If anyone can tell me what fluid is best I will pick up some and just do it myself. Thanks guys...

He's asking about his tranny, not his motor.

my friend put Redline in his CRX, and it made a HUGE difference, shifting was silky smooth. However when I put it in mine, I didnt notice any difference. Im stickin to OEM Honda from now on.

Castrol 10w-30 in the tranny works great.

Get one of thouse pumps you put in the MTF bottle. Makes filling the tranny 10x easier.

About how many Qts does it take. I suppose I could look in my owners manual, but I like communicating with other R owners instead.

For me:

Honda MTF = wouldn't go into 3rd gear at High RPM
Castrol 10w-30 = goes into 3rd gear at High RPM

For me:

Honda MTF = wouldn't go into 3rd gear at High RPM
Castrol 10w-30 = goes into 3rd gear at High RPM
could that be more related to a tranny problem??

Nah. The sychros were fine. I shift alot at high rpm so a lighter fluid helps.

Much to everyone's "comical delight", I have owned three R, and one other B-series powered car. Before the first tranny flush on my first R, I had believed that motor oil, 5w-30, was okay. Before the "conversion" to MTF, I had always experienced a slight "hum" from the tranny. After experiencing an MTF-equipped tranny since, there have been no unexpected noises, and both of the R trannies shift nice and smooth. Both are also track cars, one having just turned 25k miles.

Agree with that...I'd like to see someone try and tilt that bottle and get any tranny fluid in. I rigged up my own tranny fluid "tube" so that I could easy change my fluid, but your right, it would be a bizzzatch to get the fluid in without a pump of some sort.

Honda MTF =
